I don't know if it's real or photo shop. It was on another BYC thread and it reminded me of my DH's "I'm getting goats" experience.

With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is...

I like everything about it except how it looks right now. I know it lays decently. It is a great part of my great waterfowl flock.
-
First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.
-
Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.
-
They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I ordered my Oxine from Lambert vet supply. It was the cheapest I could find and included the oxine in the jug and the activator in one order. It gets very confusing on sites that don't sell both together. Mixing it gets confusing as well if you aren't all up on metric stuff. I keep saying I will write it down every time I make it but I end up having to look it up again. I have a converter site bookmarked on my computer I have used for years that I use to do most of the conversions I need.
One nice thing about it is it lasts forever. I mix a gallon at a time which is only like about 1/3 cup of the liquid and maybe 2 tsp of the powder then the rest is water. It is good for about a week. Then I never use it full strength unless I am using a spray bottle. It virtually kills all bacteria including odors which I really appreciate when it comes to the birds.
I just dumped and reloaded the vaporizer with fresh oxine and water. I used the older stuff I had in there earlier to clean my hatcher.
It was great to see Ivy and Mike.
Checoukan there is an extra pullet in there. I had thought she was one of their offspring but I think she came in the my hatchery birds and is a young LF. You'll definitely will be able to pick her out. You can do what you want with her. You weren't charged for her. I didn't think I had any whi over black LF polish but she is just too lanky and doesn't have the right head for the bantams.
Ivy says she has made herself stay off of BYC until she gets this move done so she stays on task. I understand that but if it weren't for this I would never take a break. And I wouldn't have anyone to bounce things off of.
Ding Dong the witch is dead!!! I'm not saying how. Just showed up once too often. Let their be peace at the farm!!!

Yay!!! Good deal!! Just don't need something like that around. Just move on. Oh thanks for the extra bird. I may just let her run with the others that hang out under my other cages. Grounds crew as I call them. So you think she is LF? Sounds like oxine is something simular to Tek-Trol. That is what I have, and use in my cleaning. All you do is mix it with water. No powder involved with it.

Danz,
Congrats on the Ding dong!
I should have asked more questions before I ordered some Oxine, I ordered a gallon, didn't know I needed powder also. Several Old Timers on the other threads use it and love it. After that egg started sweating and exploded when I was getting it out of the incubator I decided to order some. Should be here any day.
3rd egg today, that is 3 in one week and they just started, maybe the work of more than one?!!?

Kansas Prairie if you don't get the powder or activator as they call it you can use citric acid instead. Not sure where you get that but I think maybe a pharmacy might have some. I know Karen uses the oxine in her pond without the activator, but the powder is what makes the steam stuff come up and makes the smell it makes.
Well DH wants to go to town to eat so I gotta run.
Yeah Checoukan she is either large fowl or a very lanky bantam. She isn't marked bad but just not that awesome quality I have come to expect. The roo just developed a black feather in his head. It wasn't there when I sold all the others. You could pluck that if you consider showing him. Otherwise I think he is awesome.

Ivy put them in her little coop for the nite. I will go get them in the morning, she is really tired and is going to lay down. I know she has not had any sleep.

Thanks for the info on the Oxine, Danz. Metric won't be any problem for me
Congrats on the ding dong - it will be nice to sleep in peace tonight.
I saw one of my muscovy drakes mate a duck this evening, which surprised me. I really wasn't expecting any action or eggs until spring. I don't know what this means - if he was just feeling randy or if he senses she is ready to start laying? They are just over 5 months old so I guess I will find out in the next few weeks (or months).
Enjoying my 10-acres of country heaven with 50+ chickens, turkeys and muscovy ducks!

Do not use the activator in a vaporizer. Use the activator only for killing pests in the coop, with birds outside of coop. Use just the straight Oxine or the generic equivalent. I found a generic equivalent that was only $13 per gallon. I think it was at Lambert's also. I'll look it up and post a link.

Okay, here's the link to a great price ($12.95) on a gallon of the generic equivalent of Oxine. Add approx $10 for freight shipping for around $23.00 per gallon. If you only need a small amount Mitchell Veterinary Supply on Mosley in Wichita has a small bottle for less but I don't remember how much it was. It was the generic also. Atwood's and TSC do not carry Oxine or the generic equivalent.
Again, do not use the activator when using the vaporizer to treat fungal lunge infections. Just use the straight Oxine.
