This year, my hubby finally agreed to allow me to try some chickens (currently own 4 ducks and 3 geese). I only wanted like 10 chickens, but discovered that it was cheaper to order Cackle Hatchery's surprise box than it was to order 10 of a specific breed, so I am now preparing for 40-60 chickens my first year of owning chicks (and with a baby due this summer to boot). I requested a ship date of early March, so I was told ship date of March 7th with an arrival date of March 9th or 10th. My DH and I have been frantically working on the new chicken coop trying to get it done before the chicks arrive. We have run into a seemingly endless list of problems, but are making slow progress. Here's a picture of the in-progress coop! I'm pretty excited to get my new chickens and am looking forward to help from ya'll in figuring out what's what!
It's looking good so far. You are planning to cover the panels with smaller wire right? I just use an extra large tarp on top of the hoop coop & cable tie it down. The heavy duty ones last 2-3 years depending on how much cover you have overhead & wind. Wow, you're really jumping in with both feet with all of those chicks coming!
