If you guys saw Danz in person you'd think she should be carded...for beer, not AARP!!!
I can't believe the progress on the coop in this heat! You guys have all been busy, too, I see. I feel like I've hardly been on at all and I miss you all!!!
I have had some heat losses, even in my yard with ice, fans, misters, etc. None since that horrible day, though. I think the temps next week look like they're going to be blissful. Yay!!
Off to put birdies to bed now...

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY Birthday Chicken Danz!!!! I hope you had a great day and that you get to go out to dinner or do something fun for your special day! I agree with everyone else- from what I can see of your gorgeous photo- you still 'got it'!!

Okay--- so I am beyond excited!!!!!!! I finished my 4th wall!!!! Yippee!!! All I have left to do is finish the nest box and wall up the little "lean to" that I created on the side (where the posts are sticking up). Here is a picture.. OH! and I ripped down the nest box I had started. It really worried me and I started having nightmares about it- it was just not strong enough! I was toe-nailing all my screws in sideways and it was really wobbly. So I dont' know why I didn't think of it sooner- but I took it all down and turned the wood and put in on in such a way that it is super solid now! I will post a pic of it tomorrow- too dark now. The picture below is the old box design I had put up and as you can see- it looks a little wimpy. I feel much better about my new design and worked on it until it got too dark tonight. I'm eager to start on it in the morning and finish it!
Starting to look like something now!!

I like to think that with everyone I catch my birds are a little safer
So does that mean you now have 6 Daniel Boone hats?

thank you Tonya! I had a hard time going to sleep last night- kept thinking of everything i had left to do.
Daren- holy crap! He looks big! That nose is huge- like a dog! What do you shoot them with? My dad gave me a .22 and a 9mm back when I first got married (yeah, we're your typical gun family) but I wouldn't want to use a 9mm at close range like that and I wouldn't think a 22 would do much. I've been thinking about getting a smaller hand gun... My mom and I went gun shopping not too long ago to look around. We shoot at coyotes with the rifle, but they laugh while they run off. hehe In my defense, I'm not a bad shot, but it's always reeeallly dark when this happens.. ha!
OKay- can't wait to get started again this morning! Hopefully I get something done.

Yep I use a deuce deuce. I would highly recommend you dont use a pistol at close range reason they will grab your barrel or your hand. they are mean as well I will get spanked if I say double hockystick (lame)anyhow they are pretty mean when corned. I have a gouge in my barrel from the last coon sow she was about 35lbs she bit the barrel scared the poop out of me. they are strong
OzawkieBantams that is a huge raccoon (unless it was a really small cage
)
We are wrestling with a pretty little skunk that is hanging out around the yard from dusk until about 11. She (he?) doesn't seem to be threat, but I have the world's slowest golden retriever (also old and going blind) and I've deskunked her twice in a week. My DH has the Mule out to see if he can herd her away from the yard before he shoots her. We don't really want to kill her, but Sunny really reeks after getting sprayed, and she's a house dog.
Anybody got any non-lethal skunk remedies? I don't mind her around, I just don't want my dog blinded with skunk spray.
