Wyandottes have a rose comb, so they aren't "comb-y".  You can usually tell by the color and development of wattles.  Couldn't really tell from the picture, we'd need a closer look.

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

So people like to sprinkle a layer under their usual bedding and it cuts down tremendously sometimes completely on odor in coops, stalls, pens, etc. It's safe to compost, ok for chickens to consume or dust bathe in...I have read a TON of good stuff on this. So I want to try it in my coop using poop boards under my roosts.

oh... so is PDZ like the agricultural lime you use for whitewash?

My son showed poultry when he was in 4-H.  He was over last weekend and we walked out to the chickens.  He looked around and said...

"Mom, remember when we used to go to people's houses and they had chickens EVERYWHERE?  We thought they were crazy....  You are now one of those people!"

LOL, I said, "No, that lady had a pea green swimming pool (ducks used her lovely in-ground Spanish tile pool) and I don't have chickens roosting in the roof joists that poop on your head when you walk under."

I remember EXACTLY what woman he was talking about................I still talk about that house!  sickbyc.giflau.gif

Is anyone showing their chickens at the California State Fair this year?  Open Poultry (adult) is being judged b/n July 27-29 in Building 6....also known as the Fur & Feathers Building.  The Junior Poultry judging (like 4H) was done this week.  I think it was the 16-19th.  I plan to go Friday morning (27th) with my son.   Sherie Minkner from Lincoln has about 15 of her silkies entered.  They are "siblings" of some of my silkies.  I'm really hoping to see and hear a "good" judge go through the birds. fl.gif My son almost did showmanship this year in 4H, but we missed the deadline.  Someday I'd like to show silkies and win lots of ribbons-Hehe!

Ooo some year I'll be showing at the State Fair. It's just so long. I am doing a fair in September (when all the chickens are molting) so it's a game of chance... molt, or not to molt. fl.gif

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.
