Yea I am new to this site and husband is building our coop right now. We live in old carlsbad 4 hens allowed 40 ft from neighbors. Does anyone know of a good place to get poulets or hens? RIR EE or Marans would be lovely.

I bought my chickens from: www.mypetchicken.com as day old chicks and I ordered only girls and raised them in the house until they were 5 weeks old then moved them out into the catawba style ark my husband built for me.
All six are now laying and are 8 months old- I have: 1 silverlaced wyandotte, 1 goldenlaced wyandotte, and 4 EasterEggers. I get two light brown eggs, one green egg, one aqua egg, and two baby blue eggs.

Carter's Hay and Feed in Olivenhain on Rancho Santa Fe Road has some started RIR (rhode island red) pullets that are already laying. As far as the 4H loophole goes- I'm not 100% sure about it- I only heard through the "grapevine" ha. Good luck- post some pix when you get your girls.

Here are some pix of the eggs I've been getting- Easter Eggers are really fun when they start to lay- it's like a finding a treasure every time you look in the nest box.

Beautiful Eggs ! I live all the way over 100 miles south of Death Valley. The town is called Ridgecrest . Started my girls in June from My Pet Chicken just four star link reds. Some day I'll make myself take and post pictures but before holidays well you all know how that is...........

Ok all you southern ca chicken people we are in. Coop is built and I found Black Star pullets in Ramona. They are in the coop now. They have a 7x7 run that is hardware wire secure from predators, racoons etc. Do you all close them into the coop each night? They sleep in there but the door is open. I will get a photo posted soon. I had shoulder surgery 4 wks ago and everything went on hold. I lvoe love our girls.
