Call the airline They can tell you. Typically they go air freight. Here in Charlotte, you take them to the air freight terminal - have to be in a crate with water. They will only ship them if the weather is to be reasonably decent. They do fly in the underbelly of the plane - it's pressurized, but not heated/cooled.

If the weather on either end or even in the general area of the country is calling for snow, etc, then I'd wait until a better day - you don't want the pup to be on a flight that ends up getting weather delayed.

AND make sure your crate is VERY secure - use zip ties to secure the top and bottom together in addition to the screws.

Also, get them a direct flight if at ALL possible. The more stops and plane changes, the more likely they lose your dog.

I've shipped several times and never had a problem. It's just nerve wracking until you know for sure they arrived OK or they are back to you safe and sound. As an example of price, (this was about 10 years ago) but it was like $150 to fly a 25lb sheltie to Florida and back.
