I haven not read this on any of the blogs, or forums.  This guy at the feed store does this for his hatchery.

I also read on a forum that someone uses towels instead of paper towels in the brooder.   We were thinking of laying a light layer of pine then paper towels on top of the pine shavings.   Any thoughts?

Never heard of that either but if it does stop pasty butt I'd say it's worth a shot.  I usually get 1 or 2 out of ten that get pasty butt and this last batch was no exception.  Out of 20 chicks 3 got pasty butt.  Easy to take care of if you catch it early but I'd give it a try to see if it works!     smile.png

Genny recommended giving them a mash made from chick starter and warm water for the first week or two.  Boy they love that and if you use plenty of water they get a lot more water in their diet too.

I've only dealt with pasty butt with shipped chicks. I have no idea why. But adding ACV to the water has always helped. I also grind starter and now gamebird feed.

Hey, does anyone want to see the ugliest coop EVER?  There are just a few more tweaks (like doors) to make it liveable, but a lot more work to make it pretty!

This is the kind of picture that my landlady doesn't get to see.  I'll send her one of the finished product.  It looks so rickety, but it's strong and TOASTY inside!

And this is what I was thinking for paint on the sides, only instead of Tuscan-style sandstone it's going to be river rock like the actual rock wall behind it.

This is my last massage room, before I moved completely home-based.

thumbsup.gif It's going to look great. looks like you have plenty of ventilation at the top.  You've got some warm days for painting this week, too.

I love it Missy! It reminds me of my MIL and how eclectic she is. I know once you get your designs on there and fix it up to look the way you want it to look the land lady wouldn't even have a clue.

Everyone does what they can with what they have to do it with.

Be prepared to just sit and stare at those chicks for days on end!  I had a hard time tearing myself away. They are so cute and do funny cute things.
