Nevadans? - Page 1171

I sell my chicken eggs for $4 a dozen and I have a huge wait list. One of my customer's pays me $6 every single time, he says they're the best he's ever had and are worth the price. I told him I won't be raising the price but he says I'm to keep it anyways. My duck eggs sell for $8 a dozen. It's mainly the Asian's who want them for eating. I have 3 customers right now and of course 2 of them want me to make balut for them but that's some other time. But 3 customers for 2 ducks work out just fine for us.

I know everyone was busy but it was just unusual for us not to be posting on here everyday.

How's all the new babies Ron and the rest of the hatching going? Both my incubators are doing fine, henzilla refused to get off the nest today to take a break and get her normal dust bath. The other incubator is pumping away too. I'm not going to candle them much this time.

Congrats on the eggs Elizabeth.  I can't wait for my colored egg layers to start laying.     smile.png     I always sold my normal eggs at $3 a dozen but with feed going up I plan to sell them for $4 a dozen.  With the colorful blue, green, brown, white and chocolate mix of eggs in the carton (which customers love) I shouldn't have any problems.  We eat all the smaller, misshapen or odd colored eggs ourselves so the premium eggs are what is left for customers.  If someone is dying for eggs and I have nothing else left I will sell the smaller ones at a reduced price.

Yes that is too cheap Ron!!!  Glad you live so far away.  Otherwise folks would be buying from you instead!   hahaha   At that price I would be losing money on every dozen I sold.  Not that I will ever make money selling eggs.  Still a little help with feed is nice.

$4/dozen was what I was thinking.  We have given 1/2 dozen to neighbors and some friends for free and Jose sold to a dozen to one of those neighbors for $3 (without asking me) but for a neighbor I think the $3 is fine.    I saw someone on Craigslist selling for $2/dozen!  they weren't in Reno, I think it was a little farther out, but still, the feed couldn't be that much cheaper there.  I'm just aiming to cover some feed, too.

OK here's some more egg pics. I collect every other day so this is two days worth. Sometimes I get a dozen more.

2 days production.

Check out this dinosaur egg! ep.gif

Here it is next to the others, all of which barely fit in a egg carton.

Dang!

Beautiful eggs, Ron. Wow, the chicken that laid that monster deserves an award!

It didn't take me long to catch up on posts today... Not the norm! I'm still in the desert playing with lizards. It's a rough life, but someone has to do it. smile.png

I'd definitely pay $4 per dozen for fresh, home-raised eggs! I'm hoping I won't have to buy eggs starting in July. Come on little chicks grow!

Has the weather still been pretty cold up there? I'm hoping to get my seeds started this weekend when I get home for awhile.

WHAT?!!  $2?  That's not even worth my time to gather them up and wash them!  Not to mention the cost of birds, feed and housing!!!           surprised-004.gif

Good looking cache of eggs!  Did you weigh that huge egg?  That might be your first triple yolker!  More likely a double but it IS huge!

Weather has been variable here. Some warmer days, some colder, some rain, some snow, lots of wind.  enjoy those lizards!  Your chicks will be laying eggs before you know it.

Thanks!   It's a slippery slope, getting chickens. You will just keep wanting more!  There are still even more breeds I'd like to try but I only have so much space. roll.png
