Hi Seth. It was great meeting your mother last Saturday. Mandy from VC has put together a potluck for this Saturday at her place in VC. It starts at 2pm. She's trying to find out who will be there and what they are bringing.

Well, I left work early Monday and went to the doctor because my right ear was killing me and the pressure was in my neck as well. She said I have something big going on all over my facial area. She believes it's due to allergies and I now have a big infection plus water behind my eardrum going down into my neck area. She put me on antibiotics, nasal spray and a anti-histamine. She said if I'm not better by today to call her tonight since she's on call. I'm not getting better, I'm actually getting worse so I shall be calling her. I have John going to the store on his way home from work today to get me the big powerful anti-histamine to try to stop this. I haven't been able to go back to work and that's really killing me. I can't go outside to be with the chickens because of all of the pollen out there and when I do go outside it really hurts even more so. I won't be able to go this weekend if I can't get over most of this soon. The pressure is really killing my right side. barnie.gif

Missy, I'm sorry you are still going through this. hugs.gif

Thanks for the support, everyone.  If any of you believe in praying for chickens, I'm sure it can't hurt.

Seth, we caught infectious coryza from somewhere.  I don't know where.  From this whole experience I learned that it can be carried on mice, and this neighborhood is full of chicken coops.  So far we've had to cull 9, and it's far from over.  BTW, if anyone hasn't decided yet whether or not to buy a share of immunization from Sunny when it comes in, I highly recommend it.  This is so much more of a nightmare because we consider our chickens more than just a lost investment.

Sheryl, I hope you get feeling better soon!  Of course, springtime doesn't help anything sinus-related.  I have a question for you, though... Will any ill effects come from feeding these ducklings too many cooked peas?  It's so adorable how they go crazy over them!  It's like walking out to the hens and giving them a handful of bugs, only not quite so creepy.  I think I'm addicted to ducklings now.

Well, I got the carrots planted in Garden #2.  Was hoping to get Garden #3 done as well, but it's a 1.5-mile walk away, and all the disinfecting I did again this morning just ate up that time.  Hopefully tomorrow.

Chickens: faverolles, australorps, Delaware, barred rock, welsummer, silver laced wyandotte, lavender and buff x wheaten ameraucanas, BLRW, blue and splash andalusian, cochin, exchequer leghorn, silkie, brabanter, minorca, turken, RIR, brahma, speckled sussex...Ducks: two welsh harlequins, two blue swedish...  Two dogs, a snake, two parents and two kids... and food gardens everywhere else.

Thanks Missy, I'm waiting for my doctor to call me back now.

Missy, ducklings actually need peas but I don't cook them first because raw peas are much better for them. If you are cooking them then make sure you do not have salt in them as well because they can die from having too much salt in their little systems. I only use frozen peas. It's the niacin the ducks need more of than the chickens do and peas has tons of niacin in them. Ducks thinks peas are candy so I only give them a handful a day for both Mo and Harmony when they are in the tub. The video I posted showed so many peas, I took most of them out and put them in the refrigerator for the next day.

Okay everyone, I just spoke to my doctor and she says I'm not going anywhere especially outside. I just called work and told them I'm out for the rest of the week. Sorry everyone but I'm going to miss the potluck.

I give them about a handful a day... about 1/8 cup.  I use the frozen peas and microwave them just long enough to thaw.  They're partially cooked anyway, for the commercial freezing process.  I think I read somewhere not to give them raw peas, but I'd have to find that to confirm it.

These guys have about tripled in size since Friday, so I'm not worried about malnutrition or anything.

I'm not sure about raw peas being bad for them but I use the frozen ones too. I know, it's crazy how fast they grow. Mo is over 3 pounds already.

Well I just "installed" my package of bees into the hive. 10,000 of them and I only got stung once LOL!!! Bee

Missy I'm so sorry about the trouble you are having. I'll say a prayer for your chickens and your family!

I hope you get better soon Sheryl and Mandy! I have allergies too and know how miserable they can be. This year has been worse than usual 'cause we usually get a repreive in winter.

Was your trip to Mexico successful Seth? I've heard about those trips and people get a lot accomplished in a very few days.
