Two nights ago, my babies woke us up in the middle of the night.  Russ took his turn to check on them, and they had food and water.  He came back and said, "They just need cuddles.  I am NOT cuddling ducks so they'll go to sleep."

Famous last words.

This is tonight.

Julie, when one of Sahara's cayugas died in the mail, we thought it was the male but wasn't sure.  Today, her surviving cayuga quacked (at 3 weeks old) and Sahara said, "Now I know this one is the girl.  Because the lady at the poultry show said the girls quack earlier than the boys do."

They have just gotten some land in the north virginia area and are meeting with lawers, land owners, and city councelmen and women to work to get the laws changed regarding growing and selling produce locally! If they are successful, they plan on making it legal to begin urban farming for the intention of selling ON SITE and even at PRODUCE STANDS in town! They are planning on putting STRICT rules in place so that they will be taken seriously and so that if the operation does come to fruition people will be forced to farm and sell safely and responsibly. pretty cool eh?

Very cool depending on what they mean by very strict.  Right now I can sell for 30 days out in front of my house but if I have to go file a ton of paperwork and get permits etc I probably won't bother.     idunno.gif

I know you will Sheryl! And here's some advice: Sign up to be notified when new listings come on the market right now! Even if you don't think you are ready to do it just yet. Most realtors have this service available for free with no obligation - you just enter the search criteria like acreage, location, etc. First, you'll have a better handle on the market - what types of places are available and what they are going for; Second, you never know when the perfect deal might come along and it all clicks. I was having listings emailed to me for years. I use the service of a broker I know in Lake Tahoe (we went to the same high school down in L.A.). You can sign up here - choose Nevada Area and it will present you a page where you enter your criteria including specific areas, acreage, etc.

YAY! what a good listener Sahara is!! Actually I just learned it last year from a waterfowl breeder, the boys peep forever, the girls tend to do that LOUD QUACK soon and especially when being handled.  I am so happy she got those ducks!   After 7 years with only chickens my daughter begged for a pair of Call Ducks and now we have have 5 different breeds and ducks are even cooler than our chickens~
