oh, I hope you're right.  they are 16 weeks--will be 17 weeks on Wednesday.  The photos are a few weeks old.  I should take some updated ones.  the confirmed roo is quite a bit larger than the other 4 even though he started out the smallest.  

Ehhhh just looked at neck feathers on the first one... Possible boy but it's really hard to say with hatchery stock silkies. The second would be easier with a body shot because the wattle size doesn't look suspicious. I feel like my silkie and showgirl Roos usually will have streamers sprouting by that age

 

My sugar pumpkins and small wonder squash are still blooming, but it's starting to get pretty late in the season to start new fruits.  You never know, though... I've heard the forecast is for heat and drought until Halloween.  So that will give new squash a chance to ripen.  I have at least 15 pumpkins of varying sizes, and most of them are getting pretty orange right now.  At least 20 small wonder squash, and they're starting to get a little of that maize color with the green.  The corn ears are fat and in the milk stage, but I think I want to let them dry to use for flour, so I can take pictures of how pretty it is!  And those pole beans I got from Sheryl?  If she offered them to the seed companies, I don't know if they'd be featured in catalogs.  They grow too well, are too vigorous, and produce too much food.  The seed companies want you to keep buying seed each year, not grow so much food that you can save seed forever.  My bush beans have one more harvest coming within a week or so, then I'm going to pull them up and see if I can keep the ground moist enough in late August for another batch of spinach.

 

Today, Russ and I went through my Ball book of home preserving and chose what we're going to do with our extra food.  I was interested in a zucchini relish and zucchini dill spears.  And a multi-veggie sweet pickle.  The thought of letting this food go to waste just makes me ill!

Glad your garden is doing well, Missy.  should be fun for you to try some new recipes for preserves. I have about 5 small wonder squash. I think that's pretty good for me for my first go around with those. 

Good Morning! Sorry I haven't been on for a while been very busy finishing up with Boomtown and getting everything together for GSR.

 

Missy, my chickens are still laying good atm. I have one who hasn't laid an egg since July 30th. I believe it's due to the heat. July 31st and August 2nd the girls only laid 2 eggs on those days otherwise, I get 4 to 5 eggs a day from 7 layers.

 

Aubrey, that's a fantastic purple colored egg you have there. I wonder if it's from the same one that laid the grey egg last month?

 

Everyone's chickens are so pretty. I still have 3 molting atm and it's taking them forever.

 

Elizabeth, Monique sat in the nest box for 10 weeks before she broke herself from being broody. I thought she never would come out of it. Sylvia was almost the same way but she only lasted 8 weeks.

 

Ron, I'm so sorry to hear about your roo. Most people would keep that roo because he's the best protector of the flock when it comes to predators. He will die for his girls if something came after them.

First thing I did this morning when I woke up was ran outside to go check on bedbug. I was prepared for the worst. It she is up walking around and generally being adorable little wobbly I'll admit but looking good. I do love her and her funny looking five toed feeties. Now I need a name for that cute lil silkie mutt!

I love that purple egg - I hope it isn't a fluke. That would be so cool to get a steady supply of them!

 

Did you open your giant egg yet Elizabeth? I'm just wondering if it was a double or triple. Most of my really big eggs have been single yolk, which I find strange!

 

My bell pepper plants look awful. It's just been way too hot for them I think. Onions, potatoes, corn and squash all look awesome though.

yep, the big egg was a double yolker. I cooked it up last night for hubby to take to work in a breakfast burrito this morning.
