No damage to my back, he said I'm good to slowly return to activities! wee.gifMy family dr (since she's closer) is managing my pain meds and we just cut down again, I have to wait a month to lower again but glad to be reducing. I know I need to take it slow but I'm getting my life back Sunny. Now......your back, where are we with that?

LOL!  You sound like Genny and my Hubby!  OK the plan is to wait until we get all the pens and coops finished and believe it or not we are making steady progress on that.  After that huge project is done I will call and set up an appt with your Doc.

Hi FlamingChicken!  Unfortunately we can no longer add new folks to the opening post cause BYC has changed their policy on that just recently.  What I need to do is create a whole new BYC page and add everyone to that then I can have the moderators here on BYC add a link to that page on the first post then erase the list from the opening post.  I will try very hard to get that done this week I promise!

Anyway welcome to the Nevada thread!     frow.gif     So great to have you here!

Don't miss the new Nevada thread pages here!  These pages are in their infancy so don't hesitate to send me suggestions for additions or improvements.  Just be kind... I'm old and technologically challenged.     LOL

Gardening segue!

Has anyone seen the website to Seed Savers Exchange?  It's amazing!  I'd heard about it, but had never been there.  After growing so many heirloom varieties this year, I've gotten more interested in the movement to retain seed varieties for future propagation.  The Exchange only deals in heirloom varieties.  The selection is jaw-dropping!

Chickens: faverolles, australorps, Delaware, barred rock, welsummer, silver laced wyandotte, lavender and buff x wheaten ameraucanas, BLRW, blue and splash andalusian, cochin, exchequer leghorn, silkie, brabanter, minorca, turken, RIR, brahma, speckled sussex...Ducks: two welsh harlequins, two blue swedish...  Two dogs, a snake, two parents and two kids... and food gardens everywhere else.

I went to check on my broody today, and my frizzled cochin egg is hatching.  The shell is half off, but the membrane is still there.  At least it has cooled down a bit.  fl.gif  Fingers crossed and prayers and good hatching vibes, please!  I'd feel so horrible if this baby didn't make it because of the heat or because I lifted the mama for a second.

I don't think lifting the mama for a second would make that much of a difference.  If the membrane dries out before the chick gets out, then it will die.  If you just went out and moistened it with water on your fingers it would help.  Also, if you pour a few tablespoons of warm water into the bedding under your mama hen, that will help also.  Just a little bit of water to raise the humidity.  That's generally what I do with my broodies, on day 20, I'll add just a few Tbsp warm water to the bedding under mama and the chickies hatch fine.

1000

and now I have a cute lil Bedbug!

hope all turns out well! Cochins are very easily the sweetest breed I have and my Lil Frizz is just the funnyest little tiny thing zipping around the yard and following me everywhere. Shes the one who lets all of our guests pick her up and hold her and she just loves it. weighs all of a few ounces wet. Love them!!!
