Pellets vs Crumbles?

Well our girls are finally starting to accept their transition to pellets. I've been mixing some into their daily yogurt all week, and today I've finally seen the level in the feeder drop by a significant amount, plus I saw Ethel eating from the feeder on Sunday. So YAY I can quit worrying about them starving themselves to death!

and perhaps the reason the level of food in the feeder isn't dropping as fast as it did with crumbles, is specifically BECAUSE they're not tossing it all over the ground, and it's actually getting eaten. Wouldn't that be a nice outcome? I'm remaining hopeful. It's really great to have this forum to come to for help with stuff like this - thanks everybody!!!

My theory is that the crumbles are just that... the crumbled up pellets from processing. No difference, they're just like the bits of potato chips at the bottom of the bag, and instead of wasting them, the companies sift them and bag them separately. For young birds, the crumbles are better. I had one 12 week-er stuff his gullet so fast with pellets he got a log jam in his throat and nearly passed out.

The bigger chooks don't have any trouble with the larger pellets, and there is less waste because they can find the pellets before they get lost in the dirt/shavings. Right now, until the youngsters are all grown out, I get both, and they're the same price per 50# bag.
