Any Mormons Here?

Hi Carla!

I certainly appreciate your input. I get the feeling that Mormonism is like every other religion out there; a good religion at its heart, but with a few sects of extremists, and unfortunately the whole lot of you get judged based on the extremists. Like the Muslims do, I think that's the closest equivalent I can come up with.

My plan is to be very friendly and civil with my guests tomorrow, and to enjoy a good discussion.

So one thing I do want to ask you, is it true that a woman must be married to a man in order to go to Heaven? Must a man be married to get to Heaven?

I love the ice cream shop analogy, And I'm very glad that you posted this, it is loaded with good points that need to be considered.

I hope I wasn't misunderstood in my posting, I have no problem with someone wanting to share the joy they experience at a particular ice cream shop.

It's only when someone comes to my house to tell me that particular ice cream shop is the only ice cream shop worth going to, especially when I didn't ask for their opinion on ice cream shops in the first place.

That is not to say that all who go door to door are like this, probably very few are, and those tactics would not be condoned by the ice cream shop in question, but you have to understand that some people do go over the top wanting to spread the joys they have found and have decieded that you should find these joys too.

And it only takes 1 bad experience to turn a lot of people off.

Having said that, we should not lay blame on the ice cream shop for the behavior of a few of the patrons.

I don't dislike door to door salesmen either, I just dislike their practice of going door to door.

Hope I'm not coming across as being disrespectful to anyone, that was never my intent.

You're right and that is what I was trying to say in my earlier post. The missionaries of ANY religion are just human, and you'll get some humans that aren't the best representatives. Their intentions may be good, but having someone shove a spoonfull of their icecream in my mouth isn't what I want. And I'm generalizing here with all religions.

Very well said SpeckedHen.

Lisa Jean the LDS is a very patriartical religon - but really how many aren't?

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
