My neighbor's dog is an idiot...

She ate a fake egg!

We leave in a week for AZ, so we moved our tractor up close to the house and fenced in an area temporarily so our neighbor can let them free-range safely each day (she's nervous). Our hens always kick a fake egg out of the nest. When we went back to the previous site to pick up the missing fake egg it was gone.

Normally Sammy just eats food leftovers and poo. We never thought she'd grab the egg. It's FAKE! But it's gone.

I've tried to reach the neighbor's to tell them, just in case Sammy gets ill from the plaster. They are rarely home. DH is laughing, imagining their dog 'laying' them an egg. I say they'd never be amazed as Sammy always poos in OUR yard. My worry is bowel obstruction. Don't know if she chewed it or just swallowed it. She doesn't carry off bones, so I really think she ate the egg. So far she acts normal. I think these people only come home to sleep, so it's no wonder she lives in our yard.

Anyone ever experienced anything similar? Will the egg 'pass'? Some of what she leaves in our yard is about that big (she is not a small dog).

Your DH is not the only one laughing. I thought my dogs where not on the bright side but thats sad LOL. It should pass and it might be on the news about a dog laying a mysterious egg

I don't how it will effect the dog. But here is a snake my mother caught eating her fake eggs.

As a kid, my "brilliant" lab ate some glow-in-the-dark marbles that I got as a prize in some cereal. (I think it was because they smelled like cereal). Mom said she went and looked for them in the backyard the following eveining and they had passed, but she didn't tell me about them and let them lay where they landed. I was about five, so I just thought they were gone.

If the egg is just plaster, and knowing dogs, she probably chewed it before she swallowed it. I know dogs eat some crazy things, but they usually don't swallow big items whole. Plaster is pretty much inert, so I wouldn't worry too much about it, just let your neighbors know what happened.

I kept going over there but no one ever answered the door and we don't have a phone # for them. I'm hoping the cheer-leader gossip chain will get the news to them, since I told another neighbor about it...

My dog ate a toothpick and a couple days later she pucked it out . Hope your neighbor's dog does the same.

Plaster of Paris is...based on calcium sulfate hemihydrate...created by heating gypsum (a naturally occuring mineral).

It's used for a variety of things, including making dentures. I don't think a dentist would put it in your mouth if it would harm you. (That's not saying a lot of other instruments they use, though!)
