Has anyone raised either of these quail? Which ones are larger and is there any difference in raising them.

I too would like to hear what folks have to say, I have been thinking of getting some butlers if I could find them.

AL

I'd like some bobwhites also..I cant find anyone that sells hatchings eggs though..

Yes I Have Both.... Butlers= The Sumo Wrestler Of Bob Whites!!!

No Differences In Birds As Far As Personality---- A Bob Is A Bob Is A Bob.... They're All The Lil Junkyard Dogs Of The Quail World.... The Butlers Are Slightly Less Flighty As It Takes More Energy To Get That Amount Of Quail Off The Ground.... But Since They Dont Fly They're Content To Stay On The Ground And Put Up A Good Fight. As Far As Size---- (here's The Disclaimer--- "true") True Butlers Are Quite A Bit Larger Than Ga Giants--- By Like 50-70% Bigger. Butlers While Very Slow Growing, Will Get Close To Or Right At 32oz On The Big End--- Now It Takes A While To Do That, They Will Continue To Grow And Develope Additional Size For Up To 18 Mos. They End Up Somewhere's Near Bantam Chicken Size( Close To Cornish Game Hen That You'd Buy In The Grocery Store)

They Are Truely Large Quail--- And Have A Slightly Less Spaztic Personality--- The Trade Off? They Bite Alot Harder! Currently The Younger Batch Of Butlers I Have Now Are About 5 Mos Old And They Are At Least 25% - 35% Larger Than My 2 Yr Old Ga Giant Breeders. Both Birds Taste Alike For Meat, As Do The Wisconsin Jumbos , Northern Jumbo, Standard, Mexican Speckled, And Tennessee Reds--- When It Comes To Cooking A Bob Is A Bob Is A Bob.... Temperments Vary Somewhat With The Butlers Being Too Big To Spaz.

There Hopefully Will Be A New Strain Out For Our Perusing Pleasure This Year Or Next Thanx To Byc's Very Own "mad Scientist" Of Bob White Hybridization--- Charlie (wilds Of Pa) Has Designed A Bird He Is Calling The Slatebelt Monster Bob White From His Very Own Witches Brew Of Breeders--- Hope Fully He'll Be Able To Throw Some Eggs Out For Us To Set This Coming Spring

RANDYNMEGS, STEELSHOT, WILDS OF PA JUST TO NAME A FEW--- THEY ARE SEASONAL LAYERS THO... LEMME PLUG RANDYNMEGS AS I HAVE SOME OF HIS BUTLERS AND HIS STOCK IS FANTASTIC AND HE PACKS THE HECK OUTTA THEM TOO!

I DUNNO ABOUT BREEDERS, BUT I GOT EGGS FROM RANDYNMEGS ON HERE AND THEY ARE GONNA BE BIG BIRDS--- THEY'RE ALREADY BIGGER THAN MY 2 YR OLD GA GAINTS. I SUPPOSE MUCH LIKE TRYING FOR 1LB A&M OR JUMBO COTURNIX YOU HAVE TO SELECTIVELY BREED FOR SIZE WITH THESE GUYS AS WELL.... THEY CERTAINLY ARE NOT DONE AT 16-20 WKS LIKE STANDARD BOBS.... THEY ARE WAY SLOWER BUT THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BIGGER. AS I SAID IN THE ORIGINAL RESPONSE "TRUE" BUTLERS ARE BIG BIRDS.... I COULDNT SAY IF IT IS POOR BREEDING, OR DISHONESTY, BUT I HAVE OTHER ALLEGED BUTLERS THAT ARE NO--- I SHOULD SAY WERE, NO BIGGER THAN GA GIANTS. I WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE SIZE AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING THE FARM 35 MILES TO THE NORTH, SO IN AN EFFORT TO EASE LOGISTICS THEY WERE SUBSEQUENTLY RELOCATED TO CAMP KENMORE( THEY TRAVEL BETTER WHEN FROZEN...)--- GOOD SIZED BOBS NONETHELESS, BUT NOT THE SUMO WRESTLERS I WANT IN MY BREEDING PROGRAM... I HAVE A COUPLE BOYS THAT WILL BE PUSHING THE 32 OZ ENVELOPE BY YEAR END...

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO CHARLIES SLATEBELT MONSTERS IF THAT PANS OUT TOO....

ALWAYS PUSHING THE ENVELOPE! BUT THATS JUST ME--- DEERMAN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN EGGS PM ME AND I'LL SEE WHO I HAVE ON MY BREEDER LIST THAT I CAN REFER YOU TO!

Like to start with breeding age birds. Know what you mean about size. like the A & M they were 1 lb birds but they dont alway produce large birds and in the wrong hands go back to normal weight.

Sure it the same with the Butler

Let me know of anyone selling true butlers. Like to get breeders at least 24 oz.

Sorry Deerman Dont Know Of Anyone Selling Breeders( Wish I Did- I'd Take The Express Course Too)... Just Egg Sources. I Dont Blame You For Wanting To Start With The Birds Themselves. But I Have Eggs From A Few Folks That I'd Use Again--- I Have An Earlier Batch From Randy And At 7 Mos Old The Birds Are Quite Big..... Holding 1 Yesterday Was Like Wrapping Your Hand Around A 1 Liter Soda Bottle (1 Liter, Not 20 Or 24 Oz...) In My View--- "now That's A Quail!" (as I Said-- I'm Moving, So All My Birds--- Every Last 1 Of Them, Has Been Handled At Least 2x's In The Past 36 Hrs...) And Yes They Still Bite Quite Hard, Seems As Tho Sitting In A Cardboard Box For An Hour Or Two Gives Them Time To Look Forward To Getting Even... They're Like 1 1/2 Lb Feathered Snapping Turtles With A Vegas Showgirl Headdress.

Lemme Tell Ya--- The Quail Are Not Happy! By The Time They Were All Grabbed Or Netted And Stuffed Into Little Dark Boxes, Waited For All Their Roommates To Suffer The Same, Waited For All Pens/ Enclosure To Be Loaded Onto A Trailer, Dragged 35 Miles North On Back Country Roads, Waited Some More For The Pens To Be Reconstructed, Then Were Dragged Out Into The Bright Light Of Day, Handled, Nails Trimmed( What The Heck Had Them All Out Anyways-- Just Figured Might As Well Get It Done...) And Placed Back Into Pens They Had Lost All Sense Of Humor....
