NPIP Certification in New York

Early this year I applied to have my flock NPIP certified. A person from the state dept of Agriculture came out an did a blood test on my flock. She also asked a lot of questions that I thought had nothing to do with this blood test. Come to find out, she was registering my premises for NAIS.

I feel like I was duped into this registration, but I don't really know how this stuff works in New York. My certificate says nothing about NPIP. Can anyone tell me if I applied for the wrong thing or if this is simply what New York does to certifiy a flock?

I just did mine today and I have a pink paper that says

"United States Department of Agriculture animal an dplan health inspection service National Poultry Improvement Plan"

"Flock Selectin and Testing Report"

So it mine does have NPIP on the paperwork. I'm supposed to be getting more paperwork when the rest of test results are in.

Well, here we go again, sneaky, sneaky. No one has to come out to register anyone for NAIS. They hope everyone will be gullible enough to just send in the paperwork. Heck, I saw registration forms in the local feedstore! Your paperwork should say NPIP, I'd think.

You can un-register your premise for NAIS, do an opt-out, I believe. The dang thing is supposedly voluntary, though seems it's like taxes, which are also "voluntary".

Reguardless of what state you are in you should have only had to sign this one form plus your membership agreement(if you chose to become a member) Or if like Ga, gamefowl breeders will have another form they will sign when getting tested for AI..If you've signed any other forms, no telling what you've gotten yourself into lol

Hmmm, I guess I'll be calling them today to see what happened. They did send me an opt-out form which I will fill out and send in immediately. I will also register a complaint that I was never told I was being enrolled in this program.

I called and found out that my NPIP is on the way (this took 6 months to get - government workers

). I spoke to someone who said the NAIS process should have been explained to me and I should have known I was being enrolled in it. I told them it was a complete shock and that the person doing the testing didn't say a word about it. I told them I was declining to participate since I was enrolled without my knowledge.

When registering with NPIP do you have to own a business or will they just come out and test the flock??
Welcome to BYC!

I don't think you have to own a registered business to have NPIP testing done.

This is a very old thread...but am curious how @McSpin 's situation was resolved.
