I have half heartily tried to sell eggs in our community but we never sold the first one. I know I could be aggressive and sell them but I never really wanted to. We have been giving them to our neighborhood. As far as egg production I am getting a little less than 1 doz a day. Our family may eat 2 doz a week. So a surplus about 5 doz a week. Here is our plan. We want to have a Egg ministry. Don’t laugh... This just might do some good. First we gather the eggs and package them in egg cartons with stickers that have GODS WORD on them. Who knows... maybe someone who has never read a word of the Bible before could for the first time read Gods Word from one of our egg cartons. Of course they are free as long as they last. We could also target houses where we think there could be hunger.. that is not always easy to see but God can lead us how he want us to distribute.

We have prayed about this and feel like we are being called into this egg ministry. We are considering increasing the flock to be able to reach more people. In fact we have one broody to hatch on Tuesday and my Dads incubator set with 40 or so eggs also. I posted a “wanted” ad in the local freecycle and one lady has agreed to donate some building supplies that they bought and never used(I didn’t post what I needed the building material for).

Our family’s budget operateds from week to week and is often tight. One quick observation is that as our flock increases so will the feed bill. I am thinking that we should trust the Lord to provide for that and if it is meant to be we will work it out.

On a side not my 15 yr old son and 17 yr old son have already jumped in and have been helping with deliveries

I would love to hear of any comments or ideas you guys may have?

(Now I am glad I never sold the first egg)

Thanks, Mike

Sparrow Ministries Mission Statement
Luke 12
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

We want to reach out to our community, in the name of Jesus, following the many examples he has left us. With love and kindness we would like to offer a token of nourishment for not only the body but for the soul also. We pray that as God helps us feed the hunger of our bodies he will also feed the hunger of our souls with His Holy Word. Not forgetting to give thanks to God always for making provisions for both.

May God Bless everyone who is touched by the efforts of Sparrow Ministries.

wow Mike, that's wonderful. I think its a beautiful idea. We don't have much egg production yet, but I has already though about donating eggs to a food bank whenever mine all start laying. You've taken it one step further.

I wonder if there is any way to set it up as a charitible organization and possibly have the feed be tax deductible or at least have it be tax free?

Well it is starting very small so we will see where God leads it first. At this point it is going to be only 5 doz a week UNLESS... Well I work with a guy who has about 25 Golden Comets and seems to always have a surplus... I might buy 5 doz a week from him while I work on getting more layers. He sales them for $1.50 a doz. (but I may get them as cheap as $1 a dozen if I buy every week) So I could possibly add 20 doz of free eggs a week to the community.

I know they are not a valuable commodity to give a way but a lot of it is just doing a kind gesture showing people that you care with out any strings attached.

That is a good point faykokoWV... we may just do that if this all works out.

I Love the idea of giving away eggs. I have been doing it all summer. Many others do to. I don't have a big flock and like you get about 4-8 eggs a day. It gives me an excuse to go visit the elderly which are on fixed incomes. Eggs are always welcomed by them as their budgets are small. It is also really good for young families with children whose parents have been layed off from work. If we look we can find many who are in need right now. I have found too that their needs don't stop at eggs. We have the opertunity to take off the trash, give lifts to the Dr. get groceries or take them to town for such. It really opens up ways to help. It is wonderful for teens to participate in this. It gives them the feelings of being blessed. they will remember it for a lifetime. gloria Jean

that is a genius idea

i could imagine a dozen eggs with little "bumper stickers" on them with mini-bible verses on them

..... like the way snapple puts interesting facts on the underside of the lids

Love your idea. I am reminded of the promise that God's word does not return empty or void. So I can't help but think people will be affected by the Bible verse you put on the carton, along with you showing Christ's love and generosity. You might want to put your name and number, or your church's address on the carton, too, in case your "customers" want to respond. May the good Lord bless your efforts.

Thank you for prompting me to remember that if I have extra eggs, I can take them to our local food bank.

I think that's awesome! Go for it! I'm glad you didn't sell that first egg too! Sometimes what we think are delays and set-backs are just God's way of opening a better door. Be blessed in your endeavor and trust the Lord to work out the provisions. I know He will!
