We have prayed about this and feel like we are being called into this egg ministry.   We are considering increasing the flock to be able to reach more people.  In fact we have one broody to hatch on Tuesday and my Dads incubator set with 40 or so eggs also.   I posted a wanted ad in the local freecycle and one lady has agreed to donate some building supplies that they bought and never used(I didnt post what I needed the building material for).

Our familys budget operateds from week to week and is often tight.  One quick observation is that as our flock increases so will the feed bill.  I am thinking that we should trust the Lord to provide for that and if it is meant to be we will work it out.

On a side not my 15 yr old son and 17 yr old some have already jumped in and have been helping with deliveries smile

I would love to hear of any comments or ideas you guys may have?

(Now I am glad I never sold the first egg)

Thanks,  Mike

hugs Such a beautiful idea! You know that phrase 'If God leads you to it, He'll lead you through it'. I think the same applies here. Good luck with your new ministry! hugs

Could you possibly start advertising about your egg ministry?  Letting people know what you plan to do.  Maybe people would be willing to donate feed? even if it's not a non profit.  Some of us are not too interested in the tax deduction part but would just like to donate perhaps a bag of feed every once in a while.  You could advertise how much a bag of feed costs.  Let local churches in your area know what you are doing.  Maybe some members there would be willing to donate?

Your goal is a great idea! Perhaps once you start it will grow.  If not, there's nothing wrong in staying small!

Best of luck,
Mary

My flock is participating in the egg rally.  I have 14 Pullets but one of them is currently broody(hatches on Tuesday).

Yesterday out of a potential 13 eggs I GOT 13 EGGS!!!!

To update:  I have had one nice lady offered to donate 3 hens to my flock.  I will work on getting them picked up and carfully...carfully add them to my flock.  Also another local farmer with a larger flock has agreeded to sell me his "overflow" eggs at $1 a doz.  This will help A LOT while I work to increase my flock.

Today is a big deal for us... We have acquired 20 doz of eggs and we are labeling them tonight and will be out in the community delivering.  Please say a little prayer so the Lord will soften the hearts of the receivers tonight that they would consider our acts of kindness as Gods acts of love.  We hope that someone with needs in there tummies or needs in their hearts will be ministered to.

We have called Gods "project" Sparrow Ministries please pray for us.

Mike

Hey Brother,

I just came across your post.  Wanted to say I appreciate your comments and your faith in knowing that God will provide and I appreciate your heart for others who are in need.

I would echo the suggesting about finding a local food pantry.  It would make it easier on y'all for having a one-stop shop to drop your eggs off at.

As for the additional feed costs, if the Lord has called you to this then He will provide the means.  That will be one sure sign that you have understood the calling correctly.

To Him be the glory.

God Bless,

Yes, please keep us updated.  What  great idea, sort of a literal translation of "feed my flock."

Now why didnt God make me think of that!  It is such a wonderful way to get the word out.  Why dont you ask others in your congregation if they have chickens and to help you grow it.  I also give mine away.  People say I'm crazy but mine go to my extended family and they need them just as much as I do.  I just tell people if they would like to donate money for feed then they can donate 1.00 a dozen.  It doesnt matter to me if they do or not..but I do ask if they want continual eggs to please save the cartons.  I think you should do this as well.  You would be suprised at what people will do to help.  Just start spreading the word around about what your doing.  People will come to help.  Just please dont be discouraged if the start is slow or you hit opposition...you know how sneaky the devil is at trying to destroy God's plan.  Just remember that if this is truely God's plan nothing will get in the way and this truely is a great way of getting  the word out to people.  I will pray this grows into a wonderful fruitful ministry and that many come to your aid.  Just wish I was closer!!

That's a great idea, so glad you can bless those around you and share the Word. It's cute, reminds me of a great lighthearted book by Philip Gulley about Dale Hinshaw's egg ministry. Yours is serious, his was silly but if you haven't read it, it's a fun read.
