Is this the "egg squat dance" pullet's do before they lay??? PICS

I'm impressed that the OP got a such an evocative photographic record of the squat! It's PERFECT. As is the second photo, of the hen indicating her privacy was just invaded.

Not all of my ladies stamp their feet as part of the squatting behavior, so I never thought of it as a "dance." I am always careful to acknowledge their receptiveness with a good skritch to the back of the neck, a pat on the back and a final skritch at the base of the tail-feathers. Plus a "Thank you, sweetie."

my hens are doing that to, i have gotten 14 eggs this week, didn't know what that was all about. i myself am 39 and thought the use of the word mount was funny also. i still am not sure how many of my hens are laying, i guess i will have to nickname all of my roosters "MOUNTIES" i have witnessed a lot of that in the last couple of weeks. I have 6 roosters, on of them is a bantam, he's not big enough so i guess he will just be a mountie trainee til we get some bantam hens.

Can't wait til mine start "squatin"

Share your wine with the gal's - maybe they will become more friendly! LOL - Actually, I have the same problem. They don't want me to catch them and when I do, they complain the whole time! Wait, - Maybe I should try the wine thing with my gals!
