Let me introduce my self to those I haven't met. I have owned poultry for 50 years. I started showing LF in the early 80s. I was breeding SLW at the time and African Geese.Does anybody remember "Killer" my gander? I showed them for a few years, very successfully, but never felt right about about having to put LF in a show coop for so long. They belong on the grass! I found Bearded Silkie Bantams as well as SLW and Columbian Ws, and showed those for a couple of  years or so, before I settled on the Silkies.

I made my own Buff Bearded Silkies from a weird, heaven knows what breeding hen, and a lovely cock bird from Bob Cook. They won alot, as did my whites, greys and blacks.If you showed Bantams back then in the South, you might remember "Mama" a black. She was still winning Show Ch at 12 years old! She and the rest of the kids earned me my ABA master Ex.. I am also a life member, but I now have Buff Orpington LF.

I have an old Coulter/ Clevenger line of Buff Os which I am crossing on English Buff Os from Marc Sacre, as well as birds from The Hinkles, and Jim Hall. My 5 month pullets are averaging 7+ lbs and starting to lay at 5 mos. They are nice golden fluffy butts, but I want to keep the early laying while adding more size, and yes, MORE fluff.Wilbur Stauffer and Harry Halbach taught me about buff color, and my mini flock is pretty even. I just want to please my eye, and perhaps.....show a few again. In the meantime I am enjoying seeing my birds ranging in the orchard.

Orpington folks are welcome anytime. I still have more to learn. Drop me a note if you'll be in SC.

Wilbur Stauffer and Harry Halbach were/are good resources for many breeds...not sure why you would want more fluff on a Coulter bird though.

    Don't remember "Killer" but might remember you if we had a real name.    Welcome aboard. Sounds like you'll have a lot of different things going on in the buff Orps.

       Bill, Like what can be seen in this photo. Black is good but would love to see him as a buff or a white. Please keep the pictures coming.

When I first started showing I was Vickie M. Head, Woodstock, Ga , then Vickie Karesh, Camden, S.C. Now Vickie Dawson, Camden, S.C. Hopefully, this wonderful husband will outlive me!

I'm till trying to figure out how to use this site. I've really enjoyed all the Orp threads. I think I've read about all of them.

I  like parts of all the different lines I have. I do have an ideal Orp in my mind's eye that I will have a bash at bringing to reality : I love wide skulls with a large eye, nice small combs that really follow the contour of the skull, Wide, deep, rounded breasts, not TOO short , wide backs, Main tails that are correct,without being "bunny tails", and really well held wings. I  want my golden mini flock to look like "peas in a pod".

One of the nicest compliments on my birds was given to me at the ABA-APA National in Columbus ( 89?). A novice walked up to Dave Sherrill and me after the Silkie judging, and said , "I really like your birds. All your different colors are the same shape". I showed 2 w, 2 blacks, 2 greys, and 2 buff at that show. BV and RV in all 4 colors, as well as BB on the white, and RB on the BUFF.. Check the '96 ABA yearbook for my partial list of wins.

I gave Shorty Polston my last 2 trios as my husband was terminal, and I did not want the line to die out, as I did not have the time to breed, or show. He has won a lot with them and their kids, though not showing as much as he used to.

These golden kids are for my pleasure. I'm enjoying spending time with them everyday as they range in the orchard.My husband cracks up watching the birds follow me in search of goodies. He does love the fact that baby snakes seem to be their favorite food!

I have some little Buff cockerels coming out of that nice Buff cock I got last year at Greenville Show.  Time will tell IF their as nice or nicer then their daddy.

As you know I am using a Buff Sport line cockerel who's daddy was grand champ at our Indiana State Fair Poultry JUNIOR Show 2 years ago.  A Pontious/Hoosier Hatchery line.  This young Buff Sport cock has alot of what we see in our APA Buff Orps.  Nice tail, nice size.  The line has nice large heads.  Not too a loosely feathered bird.  Cross this cock onto a pair of Black hens, resulting in Cuckoos.  I can take the Cuckoos back to Whites & Blacks to better the genetics.

This Black 6 & 1/2 month ole cockerel is from a line which has the original Akers hens I started with.  Doug's birds have great stiffer feathered tails and nice size.  This is the first cock/cockerel in this newly formed line which shows some of those traits.

 mr & mrs  softie look like the broad sides of the barn out enjoying some spring grass thou it is awful cold today!!!!!

i ordered a large water fountian because mr softie hs such a big noggin that he was having trouble getting a drink out of any of these water fountians, so had to finnaly give him a big bowl .
