You and I are used to looking at scapulas, ie; shoulders, showing lots of rein , and horse in front of you. However a bird walks on it's HIND legs , so we are talking short FEMUR here. Which ever,being short, it cants the bird forward. I've found over the years that I put a visual girth on most critters. It works for horses, dogs,cats, goats, sheep, and poultry because it shows the balance point. You wanna ride that hen? I don't think so. She would pound your teeth out. Even canted forward, with that short neck (horrors) how does she eat comfortably??? I can visualize her rolling forward head over heels about the yard like a parlor roller pigeon. Function follows form, and vice versa. A natural balance is a beautiful thing, but "dealer's bait " pretties fool a lot of people, and she IS pretty.

i have ridden those! they make you feel like your going to slide right off the front..short legged no spring too much weight forward heavy on the forhand, they dont make it too far as you said..they break down..i posted a standard pic or want to be standard pic of an ermine orp a ways back..hes a big strapping bird like that one but you can see better balance..some of these birds can fool your eye but you know somethings off there..your much better at pin pointing that..im seeing it but my mind isnt trained enough to identify that something..your good at that. she is durn purty thats for sure and thats the problem..

where is bill? here is an aussie thread talking same subject but it isnt the same site that the project was going on..this thread was somone talking about a person in us may have created a lavander ermine and they were pretty excited about it, unfortunatly pics were long gone , removed of some of their attempts . the trick the other guys thought was to only seek it in orpingtons, sussex and columbian to them would create wrong type.

Aveca, isn't this what Phillips (big blue on byc) has already created?? They are doing such coloring in both Am's and sussex.

That Ermine was truly balanced, and so was the hen. Lots of substance to them too, as well as being afflicted with the pretties.Years of riding other peoples' bad horses either hunting, or cross country, taught me two things. Take a look at the eye first, then see if the critter is balanced so you have a chance of making it back to the barn in one piece! If their eyes are revolving ,or they try to fall down in the dressage arena, you've been forewarned! I missed the cues a few times, and that's why my back is in the shape it's in!

I just joined this site.  Someone had said they made something like what i have by crossing Lavs & Sussex on another thread.  There was pics posted like 2 years ago.  Long since deleted

To stay joined on that site you need to post within 24 hours or you will get dropped.  So, I posted pics of my Aussie "LAYER's Specials".

Their looking way different mowadays.  Have sorta an Aussie looking male in with them.  BUT, Have this Aussie looking male who will be going in real soon.  Much nicer tail.

Can't show him, he is missing one eye.

I hatched some eggs from a pen of Blue, Black, Buff, and Lavender Orpingtons. There were hens of each, and 3 roosters that were Blue, Buff, and Lavender. These came from a friend. Anyway..I know which the Buffs are...but these other 4 came out of the Orpington eggs and I THINK 2 are Blues or Splash..but just not sure of the 3rd and 4th..black? Mix? The one not pictured looks very similar..except more of a greyish color rather than dark black.

There was a Brown Leghorn hen and a Salmon Faverolle hen in the coop, but these distinctly looked like Orpington eggs.

Anyone have any guesses? They are heavy set like Orpingtons..but just want to verify color and if I'm correct on the breed with the darkest ones.
