I figured as much.  Chickee's pretty boy is why I asked.  My BW hatched from Peachick's eggs has a little fluff, but he has red bleed on his chest.  Not sure what to do with him, either. 
He doesn't have his beard right now - the girls don't seem to like a guy with facial hair.

You can't see the color bleed very well, but hopefully you can see it.

Is there any way to know for sure (besides breeding) if your black ameraucana is carrying the lavender gene?

If you don't know his parentage, you will have to breed him to a lavender to find out.

Ditto, Steve! I'll be wearing my Barn Goddess baseball cap and handing out BYC goodies on Saturday and Sunday. I do plan to spend time amongst the Ameraucanas and the Marans so there's a very good chance you'll find me in that area. Make sure to say hello if you see me!! big_smile
