This one on my hand I believe is a girl.  She is now 5 weeks old and mothering the chicks pictured above.

I can't see the back part of the wing too well, if it is pointy, more likely a girl.  Squared off, a boy... I also combine my guess with the width of the nasal area on Ameraucanas.

The stripped pattern like that will always have the boys as a lighter color from head to butt.  Gloria jean

This is our 3rd year hatching and raising Lavender Ameraucanas.  It is UNBELIEVABLE how noticeably obvious the progress has become.  Our first few hatches this year have blown me away.  The hens we hatched last year have better colored eggs than the Wheatens and Blacks. Last years cockerels have amazing combs.  It is a nice sunny day...I think pics are in order.  I really need to stop procrastinating and get my girls into a few shows...the whole process seems scary to me.  Out of all the variety of birds and breeds I have raised, not one has maintained my interest like these lavs have....that and Saxony ducks.  Now if I could just keep them out of my strawberry patch!

I posted another question about Silver Ameraucanas on a different thread and was told I would have better luck posting it here. http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644752/ameraucana-question#post_8691942

This will be the first pic I've posted in the new format....hope it works.

Chick pic taken today (also going through his ugly phase)...I had a problem with tardy feather last year, as we hatched out at least one lav chick per batch that was slow/tardy feather.  With the painful task of test mating, etc, we found the source to be consistently a lav hen, who we culled (in this case gave to a friend for her layer pen).  I don't know if there is a connection, but this hen also laid wonky, exaggerated fat teardrop shaped eggs.  Anywho...this chick just hit 2 weeks of age yesterday and feathers are growing in beautifully...as are ALL of his brooder mates.  Yippee!  Color is also lovely.  The split lavs look great, too.

Not sure how to upload multiple pics in one post yet.

One of your questions was "Which is better full fluffy muffs and beard or straight, pea size comb?"...too much of anything in the Ameraucana is not a good thing.  People in general like the extra poofiness of the muffs and beards, but remember, Ameraucanas should be medium in every way per the SOP.

Well, I won't win awards anytime soon for photography.  It is so bright outside, but the wind does undesirable things to the feathers as I take pics. (The hen in one pic is fluffing herself after mating). These are split lavs and lavender going on 8 and 9 months. The Split Lavs have a beautiful green sheen that my Fuji Finepix camera refuses to pick up.

Here are the growing cockerels from last year.DSCF5547.JPGDSCF5551.JPGDSCF5555.JPGDSCF5556.JPG
