Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds - Page 233

pips&peeps :

VeryCherry, your bird looks like a nice gal.  If you have black boy, you can breed him to her.  If she is recessive, the chicks will all come out black and the next generation of chicks will produce more whites.  Just make sure you mark them and don't put them back in your black pen.

Thanks Jean, and I won't put any of their offspring back into the black pen.

By the way, the started chicks I got from you are doing really well, and the Wheaten pullet is getting a nice beard now.  I've been letting them run around during the day in a large pen with some d'Uccles, but the other Ameraucanas are still being a little mean to them so I haven't let them into the runs just yet.  Two of my Black/Lavender split pullets are broody though and each is sitting on 8 eggs, so that might have something to do with it.  I'm really surprised these two girls are broody, especially as young as they are, but one has been sitting tight for 3 or 4 days now, and the other started sitting yesterday morning.  They're being so ornery!

Large Fowl - Lavender Ameraucanas, Blue Wheaten & Cuckoo Marans, Partridge Cochins, Silver Spangled Hamburgs.

Bantams - White Cochin frizzles, Silver Laced & Black Cochins, Mille Fleur & Golden Neck D'Uccles, White & Gray Silkies, Sultans.

Does the name Paul Pleece ring any bells? I recently just found out about him. He's a breeder in Concord, CA that is suppose to have Blue Wheaten Ameraucana stock.

Hi:

I haven't posted much here, but read all the time learning as I go.

I just wanted to share that I went into lock down with some of Jeans LF Lavender/Lav Split last night, and I'm very excited!!  I will let you know how well they do, and post pics of my new babies. big_smile

My zoo includes my hubby of 28 years, 3 grown kids and three grandbabies.  I am currently working on Lav/Split Ameraucana project, but I also have a few marans, silkies, a couple white leghorns, buff orphs, light sussex, welsmers, etc. I am a hatchaholic and I cannot stop!  Love all the different breeds. I have a paint horse and a goat too. My doggies include my Rottweiler and my pit bull...

I am going to be getting some chicks this week so excited.  Does anyone know any tricks so I can pick hens instead of roosters for day old chicks.  I really don't want anymore roosters. Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered I didn't read the whole thread. My bad. smile

Very exciting Dar!  Luck!  My eggs from Jean are only on day 5 today.  Also, LF lav and lav split, with some black for good measure!

Never heard of him, I don't think he is a member of the club....

Found his website, did you see the picture of his eggs?????  YUCK!!

ETA:  Looks like he has a pair of wheaten/blue wheaten and the rest are easter eggers.

Do you have the link to the website Jean? All I could find was his Facebook...

ETA: It's frustrating how I'm running into so many "Ameraucanas" that are for sale lately. barnie

ok, I need opinions. I bought ameraucana eggs from a breeder that I had purchased from before. The eggs were an awesome color last time but this time I was rather disappointed in the color. The batch I hatched before resulted in chicks with HUGE beards/muffs. These are for a project so egg color would need to be worked on anyway. SO, do I hatch and see if they are still as typey? And then work on egg color with my better colored layers? Or should I just sell them all off? Jean, these aren't from you before you ask wink (those are doing excellent btw).
My thoughts were since they are for a project and if they hatch out looking the way the others did then they could be valuable in achieving the look I need.
What do you think?

eta- I have 2 splash hens from them and they have the biggest muffs/beards of any of my adult ameraucana and great egg color...

makes me wonder what happened???

And here's my pick pullet, the only one I believe has both muffs/beard genes. hmm
