thanks.

i just candled them and they only take up like 1/2 of the egg. is that normal. they have been in the incubator scince dec. 25.

you should be counting the days they incubate. at 18 days you should put them in lockdown. by day 18, you should see the chick taking up most of the egg (EXCEPT the air bubble! if you don't see an air bubble, that's bad. the chick has died. ) and the chick should be moving a little bit inside the egg, too.

I have to disagree with your statement here... Strictly for the fact that I candled all of my 43 egg clutch on day 18, saw that most of them that were just plain darknes, not even a trace of an air bubble to be seen(granted some, 8 out of the entire clutch, are EE eggs making it very difficult to see anything period), and all of these same eggs are rocking/shaking and one of them just pipped.

I have a few that are like this also... I would need to recandle(but in lockdown) to know for sure,, but I could have sworn that some of them have been rocking/shaking... potentially a double yolker where only one yolk was fertilized?

That is so exciting to look at. I would love to do that myself...hatch eggs....but hubby won't make one and sure won't buy one so guess it will be the old fashion way for me. Let the mothers hatch their own eggs OR buy day old chicks from a hatchery. THANK you for sharing your beautiful pictures.

just put 2 eggs in incubator last night in a liitle giant still air, this is the first time i have tried to hatch any eggs. if anyone has any good tips let me know, I was told not to put ant water in till after the first week. I was wondering if this was right?

and I have an LG still air also. From what I have been learning, for best hatch rate: you want to keep it dry for the first 2 weeks, then up the water(fill the center ring and the 2 channels) during the last 3-5 days of incubation, make sure your temp is at/around 100-101 F, keep at least 1 red vent plug in the entire hatch(it will help keep temp and humidity stable)
