Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed - Page 4

Thank you so much for posting this.

I hope that you will continued to take pics and give us at least weekly updates.

I'm saying it's a hybrid because it certainly doesn't look like the guinea keets.

Keeper of 18 hens,  3 PW Leghorns, 1 leghorn mix, 1 FBCMarans, 1 Australorp, 2 Olive Eggers , 1 EE, a Barred Rock, a RIR, a CQ, 1 Delaware,, a Splash Ameraucana,  3 polish, a Welsummer and 25 juvies of various breeds(6 Heritage Delawares, 1 SLW, 1Blue NN, 5 FBCMs, 2 Ameraucanas, 2 Olive Eggers, and 8 Alohas.) YIKES!  Time to SELL some chickens!

Here are some new pictures.  Miracle is now 3 weeks old and continues to grow more than the others.  It is so much fun just to observe the differences in them.  By now I'm convinced that Miracle is a cross breed and that the other two little ones from the same mother are guineas.  Their differences are more than just their size and looks.

The box I'm raising them in is on the counter top.  When I take the screen off the top Miracle flies right up on the edge of the box at eye level with me.  He will stand there and look at me with his black eyes and let me pet him for the longest time.  He has this look on his face that tells me he thinks he is smarter than me.  Maybe he is????   He seems to know the difference between me and my husband and doesn't fly out of the box for him like he does for me.

The other two stay as far away from me as they can and freak out when I catch and handle them.  They will eat out of my hand but don't like being touched or picked up.

This is like a science project!  I'm so glad to get to observe these guys as they grow and thanks to this forum I can share them with any of you who are interested in seeing them.

May I suggest that you post your pics on one of the Guinea Sites ?

http://www.guineafowlinternational.org/

has a forum and you can talk with them. Of course this is an exception to directing you to other sites.

These folks may have a better idea of what you have.

You may have genetically induced the "jumbo" gene of Guinea fowl. It DOES exist and you can buy them form certain

hatcheries.  I plan on getting a few next spring, but I know VERY little about them.  I do have the "french" Guineas, but

they look JUST LIKE the pearls although they are about 20 percent larger.

In any event, please keep us posted and let us know what you find out !!

More pics please, every week !!??

It definitely has a beard and "funny coloring to be a pure guinea....".  So it's a hybrid.  (afaik, there are no bearded guineas yet?)

I really like the patterning on the guy. Seems very different from the usual hybrid, which often seem to take after the chicken parent color much more than guinea.   Please do keep us updated on him.  smile

I say too bad the hybrids are mules...  Imagine being able to introduce the guinea spotting onto chicken?  Get the beauty of guinea feather without the incessant noise or aggressiveness  of guineas..  Or introduce new colors into guineas from chickens..

Or how about silkied guineas.lau

Thank you.  I followed your advice and will see what the people over there think.  I have never heard of the jumbo gene.  Ain't it amazing! big_smile
