chicken walking funny?

i have a flock of 17 hens and 1 rooster. one of my golden comet hens, 2 years old this past august, is walking awkward. her legs at the hip seem to be bowed out, shes walking very slowly and close to the ground, comb and face is palish pink. she is eating fine, pooping fine, just seems to be in pain???. no cuts or abraisions anywhere on her body. They eat a layena crumble and are free range and get fruits, veggies, yogurt, etc. could she be deficient in something or have a disease???

can somebody please help me out here. i am stumped

Have you checked her feet? I'm wondering if she has bumblefoot, which is a staff infection in the bottom of her feet so don't touch it without gloves on.

yes i have checked her feet. it is coming form her hips it seems. she stands around with her feathers ruffled, half cocked back/leaning back, bottom almost draggs on the ground because she is walking so low to the ground

I am not sure if I can help but I have a small english game hen and she is doing the same sort of thing. She looks like she is almost squatting and looks uncomfortable. She is eating but not as much and pooping but it's white and a bit watery. I contacted the lady I got her from and she said she does that just before she molts. Has yours molted yet? She said she brought her inthe house and kept her warm and she got better.

bc birder- we killed our hen that was walking like a penguin. i cut her belly open to see what was going on and found 2 huge masses inside of her that looked like large hard boinled eggs (softball sized). can you feel a hard mass in her belly? if so i would bet she is an internal layer as well. good luck to you!

I, too, am guessing internal layer, or egg-bound with a soft-shelled egg.

Well I am always learning something new. I have never heard of internal layer before. My little hen did die, last monday. I did cut her open (yuc) but she looked so perfect and had nothing that i could see that was wrong with her. I feel so helpless and wanted to find out what happened.

I did find what looked like a egg yolk inside her body cavity. Not in her intestine but on it's own.

It looked like an egg. It didn't smell like infection. Is there anything I could have done for her?

Her daughter had 7 chicks on Wednesday but none look like her.

I know you posted your comment a long time ago, but people may look for the forum for chickens walking funny. Anyhow, down to business. Breeds and quantity of chickens you own=irrelevant. Here is a video. If this is what your chicken is doing, I have the solution. Video:
The best way to describe this problem is that the chicken appears drunk. It appears that the muscles haven't developed (or regressed) around the joints of their legs. No problem...easy to fix...

I posted the solution to the problem below the youtube video, but I will put the solution here also: Call your local agriculture store and ask/purchase a 50 pound bag of Aureomycin crumbles. Mix 5 parts of their normal feed with 1 part of the Aureomycin crumbles. Feed this to ALL your chickens every day...even if the remainder of the flock looks healthy. You should see dramatic improvements in their walking in 2-3 weeks. After 5-6 weeks, they should appear 100% normal again. I've been through this, I know what I'm talking about.

It was sad to see this happen to the chicken...didn't think she was going to make it. But then after I began medicating, the problem went away very quickly.

Continue to use the 50 pound bag of Aureomycin crumbles until the bag is gone. By that time, the chicken(s) should be healed. This is an antibiotic, but will require more than 10 days of feeding to clear up the problem. As I said, use up the whole bag.

cant you just give penicillin instead????
