I'd leave the water empty until stop day, and then set it at 60%. That's just me...
I wanted to ask you a question about something you posted about sanding the black copper maran eggs before incubating. I did this to 7 of my eggs, but i missed the part about the betnadine solution to replace the bloom. Did I screw up, or will I be okay?

Wow I super wish i read this before I set my hatch with 22 maran eggs. i was debating about a dry hatch but decided to shoot for 45% humidity now on day 8 and I am freaking out that my Marans aren't going to hatch well, ambient humidity is about 40% right now in my area of Arkansas. I don't think I should risk the hatch by doing it completely dry since i am 8 days in, right?

edit: the breeder i purchased eggs from is more or less in the same region and they said 45% and lockdown 55%

A chicken egg is a chicken egg, everything is the same. If I have one of my other chickens go broody and place a few BCM eggs under her, do you think she knows the difffeance? Does she add humidity or increase the temp some how? Heck no, she just sits there until the eggs hatch.
This is the best comforting answer ever. Thank you.:love
