Hi, I just got an English Shepherd puppy two weeks ago--drove all the way from Texas to Missouri to pick him up. He's a doll.

We have great expectations of him as a farm dog and I'd like to hear stories of your English Shepherds and how they have helped around the farm, or even if they haven't helped around the farm. I've heard some amazing stories about these darlings. Can't wait to hear yours.

I have a 10 month old. He will sass you like crazy when you give a command. He pretty much lets the Aussie do the herding of the chickens and goats but the horse he goes for if needed. He plays backup with the goats if Bailey needs him. He has been amazing when it comes to taking on the coyotes. We have seen a major decrease of them on our property since he got ahold of one. He has also been a great little hunter. He took out a couple snakes, tons of rodents and a groundhog. I have also been training him as an assist dog. My mom has issues and will fall so he will now stand and brace to help someone get up.
He is great with babies of any species. I only have one problem and that is when he gets into guard/protection mode he is hard to back down. He almost went through a window after a person.

I too will follow this thread with interest. I'm hoping to get an old-time farm collie pup when we move to the country. I'm looking at both English Shepherds and the old type Scotch Collie (not the AKC Collie, although they're lovely!).

Here's a great site for anyone interested in learning more about the breed: http://www.englishshepherds.net/history.htm

Please
post a pic of your pup when you can!

What breeder did he come from?

I have been looking as these dogs for over a year. I've tried a Great pry and it just didn't work out. I was wondering if a english shepherd would be a good choice.

Please share what breeder you got yours from. I'm having trouble finding them close. And one in MO would be great! I'm on the MO/IL border.

We need pictures. They are beautiful dogs.

Oh thanks for the pics! Looks like a short haired Border Collie to me or Smooth Border Collie. Or a cross of Border Collie with German Shepherd the way it looks like to me.

I think they might be high energy dogs with a TON of herding instinct and drive.

I bet they are good family dogs too!

I forgot to add my English Shepherd never goes past the edge of our prop. He will go to the edge and sit. Once he learned what was his he was fine. Before that he would go down to the neighbors and try and figure out what that big creature was that moos. Alot of the Amish around here use the English Shepherd. That is where I found my pup. (however I wont go into his condition)
KinderKorner here is that website. She is a great person to deal with. http://www.goodshepherdfarm.net/
