I wish I could record sound with these pics. Baby Delaware, five days old, has a slipped tendon so was left over when joletabey came to pick up her Delaware chicks. It's becoming quite spoiled already and at this moment is singing in DHs pocket. I mean singing and trilling like a songbird! We're going to hate it if the splint on its leg doesnt fix the problem. If he puts it down, it chirps and chirps till he picks it back up.

Way too adorable! I hope it heals.

Question though: How do you tell it slipped a tendon? Since I'm hatching now, I feel I need to know this. Thanks.

so sweet. good luck with the leg.

speaking of the pocket "peeper"i have a little story...i got a couch at a thrift store one time , and when you sat in it, it faintly chirped! it took some investigation but it turned out there was one of those peeper easter egg toys crammed down in there under the cushions.

That splint was vetwrap, but we have changed it back to a length of drinking straw held on by vetwrap. The first time we did a splint with a piece of vetwrap, that leg swelled up, though it wasn't tight. Then we tried the more narrow one in the pic and it kept slipping down. So, DH did the one with the straw. Not sure it will do any good really, but it's worth the effort for this otherwise very healthy chick, I guess. The way we knew it was a slipped tendon is that the joint kept popping forward rather than bending the proper direction and it was stumbling around the brooder and being run over. We've had one chick before with it, but it was a BR cockerel and we euthanized it. This one didn't happen till it was 4 days old, so I'm thinking it was maybe hurt in a Delaware chick pileup--they are so rambunctious!
