Cleaning feathers to use for crafts

What "I" do is hand wash in Woolite (Tried using blue Dawn and the feathers seemed like there was a film left on them).  I rinse well, and then I use the hair drier one by one to form each feather and dry them fully.  It is time consuming, but the feathers come out clean, SOFT, and look like they originally did on the bird!

Simply put them in a plastic zip bag and keep in the freezer for 2weeks, no need to wash them freezing gets ridd of mites etc. I've been doing this for 10 years and have some exotic feather collection and no deterioration of the feathers.

Awesome. I've been collecting feathers here and there. I'm going to try to do something with some of them this week. Anyone have any pictures or ideas of what to try?

I use Down Cleaner with warm water in a gallon zip lock bag. Let soak for 30 minutes, then rinse well, and air dry or sandwich between two dish towels. A light coating of essential oil may be beneficial. (I'm trying the aforementioned freezer method next. (Freeze for two weeks.)

thanks for the tips! I've been collecting feathers, with the intent to put them in fillable Christmas ornaments :) I will wash them this weekend and hopefully have so cute ornaments when I am done!
