Hey everyone,

Just waned to give youa quick update. I have a few backyard chickens again at my college apartment in Burlington VT. I have four ready to lay pullets. I am crossing my fingers for eggs any day . I have one Rhode Island Red, One Barred Rock, One Easter Egger, and one Austrlorp. I have two 5 week old pullets one Faverolles that I hatched and one Marans that I got as a companion for her from my friends. Cannot wait for them to get past their flighty youngeter phase and turn into sweet hens. The older birds are much friendlier. I also have a big backyard garden and decided to try my hadn at raising ducks. Not enjoying it as much as I thought. I have four two week old ducklings. They are much messier then chickens adn because they are not imprinted on me are very flighty. They are blue swedishX MallardX Roune crosses. Hopefully they calm down adn i have a few females so that I get duck eggs to eat. May end up processing and eating them all haven't decided yet. Hope all your Faverolles are happy and healthy and the young birds are growing well. My pullet sure is. I will try and keep you guys updated on her progess .

All the best,

Always willing to help!  ;)  I am keeping a trio of Ams that I am attached to, but won't be breeding them, they'll just live out their days as pets... wink.png

Can't wait to see them. Thanks Glad to have some birds again. The ducks may be looking for greener pastures eventually. My one fav pullet is great. Obvisously one of my favorites haha.

My eggs go on lockdown todaysmile.png Not sure what I'll get after the rough handling they had at the PO. So if anyone has eggs and or Ships chicks I might be in the market. I want Favs.

Too Funny, VBG, After trying tons of varieties Im getting closer to having mostly Favs, Rosecomb Anconas, maybe keep the Barnevelders and a mixed fun-egg group. I think its neat to see all the Fav. colors become more available. I am thinking of cutting back on my bantam Favs. in favor of the large fowl, Salmon-blue Salmon, Mahogany and eventually blacks.

To answer what is not to love about them.....the very thing that we love most...Their personality, sweetness.....because they are so gentle they are an easy mark for the dominant ones. The buckeyes i have are kinda similar except not so cute, VBG  eliz

When I brought home my first SF quad, the "hench-hens" would peck at him mercilessly. And, he just sat on the roost and passively took it from them. I don't think they do that anymore, in any case, they didn't injure him, but it sure looked humiliating!

Anyone know how the personality of the Legbar is???? They lay blue eggs, also there is a duck that lays them also,,,,,don't remember but saw the eggs at a show once.,,,,Most folks think only of the Ameraucana's, Aracanas & EE.   eliz

Do the bantams exhibit the same skiddishness/flightiness at a young age as the LF?
