Aren't the long time breeders just to helpful. Can credit Dick, Leisha, and Peter with everything I know about breeding faverolles which is the grand scheme of things still isn't all that much. Hope you have some good chicks come out of that hen.

Oh, thank goodness. Thanks alot.

You bet.  I assume it's a small thing in the bird's genotype that affects the down color on the chicks, but I haven't seen it affect phenotype.

Handsome birds they do look good. Glad that you got that all cleared up and it shouldn't be an issue. I guess I just haven't experienced it before.

I have hatched about 40+ chicks and just a couple have a very faint smug on them. I have very nice quality birds from Ron Patterson, so I know they are not crosses or anything. I am just a little confused.

Please help.

Actually, fav chicks can come in several forms. There's the ever popular yellow, then you can have faint or real live def smudge mark/stripes right through them looking like baby quail. Simm was a quail colored chick. It does not imply there is a cross some where. So, there certainly can be variation. So, don't anyone be culling off colored chicks....it happens.

Yeah, when it's a mess is when you have yellow chicks with stripes hatch out of a b/b/s flock...  barnie.gif   th.gif

That is super interesting! Never seen a chipmunk colored fav chick but that is interesting that they can be that color. Hopefully I will get to see a range of colors eventually.

Haven't ever had that problem that would be very frustrating. Has that happened with your Ameraucana?

I just had my first hatch of what are supposed to be Mille Fleur OEGB bantams... lots of blond chicks w/ stripes, some smudgy blue looking chicks, and some dark w/ lighter speckles chicks no idea if they are right or not ... but they sure are cute love.gif
