I have been working very hard on selecting the best genetics I could find, and blending these with just a select few birds, chosen from a large number of good sturdy hatchery strain Favs. It was only 3 pullets selected from 50+, to bring in some genetic diversity. These were only used once then removed from the flock. I then line bred these percentage birds back into the show line (Boulanger) I had bought. I have raised a ton of chicks over the last year, close to 300 from a flock of 4 pullets, 2 hens, 2 cockerels and 2 cocks. I have been very carefully monitoring who produces what, and have been making some fantastic progress. I was especially fortunate to be able to add some pure Merlin birds this year, through 2 pullets and 2 cockerels, which have moved my long term goals ahead by years because of how consistently they produce type. I hope to be able to prove I am on the right track this year at a few shows where I will show my work ( Junior a 7/8ths Black Jack son)  for the very first time... nervous but confident as showing my Black Jack offspring will help me decide what my focus needs to be on for next years breeding, something I am always thinking about. It will also help me choose who will be the next senior roo so Black Jack can be retired. Please keep me posted with how your birds from my eggs do- I feel like an artist on opening night as this was the first year I offered eggs to the public... just want to get some good "reviews" LOL

I have hatched some of Juniors babies this year as well, and these also will be shown... they will be 15/16ths bred on Boulanger and some will be out of pure Merlin hens- so excited to see them grow up! I also have 3 older pullets that are out of Juniors percentage sisters, and they were sired by a Merlin roo. Only plan to keep one, but will be showing all 3. Anyone interested in buying one of the 2 girls from me in Lucasville in October should shoot me a PM. Can't promise anything this early, but if they all 3 go, I only want to bring home one. I am not sure what the price would be. Will post pictures of them as soon as I can take some.

Glad to hear your breeding ventures are going so well. Hope that you can end up showing some of them. Can't wait to see pictures of these birds should be very interesting.

Hey! I just got my first Salmon Faverolles last week and I'm wondering if I got a boy or a girl. Here's a bad pic, I'll get a better one later

Thanks Henry.

I hope to be able to post some better pictures soon with my new camera. Pictures had been difficult because my old camera had a delay which made taking decent bird photos difficult. I also am building a "photo box",  similar to the one Peter used in some of his older pictures (such a good idea!) to give a good background to make the bird easier to see. Probably going to paint it green or teal so both sexes will photograph well in it. I have a ton going on right now so it might be a little bit longer before I can post them. I am also getting ready to begin building my website, which is why I got the camera in the first place. I mentioned the website to an online friend and he bought me the camera because as he put it, "Hun your birds are gorgeous, but your pictures are crap" So now I gotta step up LOL Having fun making my NimbLeQuik logo and figuring out where to start the web site design... but got tons of babies hatching to cull through, and gardening stuff too that can't wait so again, I might get side tracked... try to post them soon so stay tuned! pop.gif

Sandi, thanks for the credit -) but those are old show photos so I can't take credit. BUT it does work well doesn't it.big_smile.png Any chicks yet?

Not until this weekend I think... at my sons shop today so I can't go read the calendar roll.png I had them on my lock-down list for Thursday or Friday if I remember right. There are 18 going into lock-down hopefully.

Family, dog, garden, aquariums, lizards, and chickens what more could a woman want? Why a horse of course!!!

Yep, that's a pullet...besides the complete lack of black on her wings, see the salmon feathers coming in on the side of her neck?

Keep us updated I am excited to hear how it goes. You have three summer eggs going into lockdown right? Sounds like his fertility may have improved?

Yes Sandy please do. We all need to understand the group I have now are at the most 10 months old (except Rupert and Clarissa, Summer's parents). The fertility on Summer has been mainly due to him being the youngest of the breeding males I have. Inexperience. I have cut his number of females. Male birds develop their "favs" and sometimes to get them to breed other females you have to take away the "fav" toy/s. Marcel's fertility, who has 6 females, has been fabulous. I do believe 99%. The first Rupert eggs just went out. I have a report back that some of his eggs weren't working. Out of the batch that went to Canada (35 eggs total) 74% are working. I'd love to hear of more but it is what it is.-)

We should see some pics (hint hint) from Or soon as they are the oldest. smirk

I am thrilled that I have been able to offer something from my pens. It's been a very long time since I could. I only have 35 birds down here total. That's spread out with Salmons being the most. Black/blue only 1 blk male, 2 blk pullets, 2 blue pullets and one blue hen. (They could put me out of salmons I like them SOOOO much). Lav project. 1 trio. I am not going to continue I don't think. Oh, and I still have those  Ameracauna pullets 3. Love their eggs and they are so good with me they come to be picked up. HOWEVER, I tried running them with some salmons again and they kept corralling one in a corner and bouncing them off each other. The lavs are more aggressive so they live with them. (Jeannine, not a complaint).-)

At any rate happy hatching to those that are waiting on their clutches from down here.
