Can the dust from chicks feathers really hurt you?

my partner has allergy issues and because we live with many birds we have invested in good hepa filter boxes. we keep one right by the cockatoo and then put others strategically throughout the house. we like them and we can tell when the filters need to be replaced because my partner starts to get "snuffly."
i wouldn't worry to much about it unless you have lung problems.
maybe invest in a couple of boxes of "swiffer dusters" (man i LOVE those things, they are AMAZING!) and see if that doesn't help.
good luck.

Hey thats an idea! Swifter dusters!

I put all my brood chicks in a Hovabart cage 24 x 24 x 18 inch cage with wire bottom. In the basement and boy, do they fluff everywhere! I have a drop pan on bottom as well but they can poop big time when they do get carried away. However those fine dust everywhere in the basement is bad enough and the furnance is in the same room...hopefully we dont have any health issues on that one! We all have allergies. The chicks never stay down there for more than four to six weeks of age depending on weather and size. Perfect for total isolation from my new birds as well before they can be re introduced back into the flock.

I thought about furnance filters on the sides and top but figured those birds will get to it and peck at the filters unless its a paper one. If anyone got ideas, let me know! I thought about those nylon netting type of filters but not sure if chicks can peck that one out too.
