D'uccle Thread - Page 398

Just cracked open one of my little Porshia's eggs and YEAH they are fertile, I have 5 as of now and will do my first set on the 10th (which is the best date to set eggs according to the farmers almanac) along with CJ exotic silkies. The D'Uccle kids I have are from Teddiliza. I hope you see this......here is a pic of my little hen http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/22834_porshia.jpg She is the only hen and has 3 roosters, I'm pretty sure it was Mr Boots, because I have seen him doing his duty. http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/22834_boots.jpg these are my first test eggs and soon will be offering them also clap

I will. They are getting so friendly. I can't wait to hatch them. I got one Black Mottled and one Blue Mottled. Seeing how it is on its way to cold weather these babies will be really friendly.

I was thinking so too. I love his foot feathering and I have a 5week old that appears to be getting the black spangles, I want to breed them to to see if her spangles and his foot feathering will make one nice looking bird. So hopefully by summer 2012, I will be able to hatch their babies.

Porsha is just gorgeous!  I wonder why Mr Boots doesn't have the black spangles? Didn't someone say crossing black mottles in will help correct in future generations?

Check with vetgirl, I can't remember the rest of her username but she's in florida and I think has nice porcelains.  You could check with Ugly Ducky who my stock is descended from- in Missouri.  However I know my d'uccles have pretty much quit laying for the year, so I wonder if others have the same experience.  I don't know if the serious show quality breeders are sharing...... Or maybe they are not computer saavy and hard to find except by word of mouth... caf

I think many of us are trying to start from somewhere which means building a flock ourselves to get the characteristics we want.  I'm not sure how many established breeders there are still out there.  I sent in my check for the club that WeGotChickens is a member of, so maybe I'll connect with some other breeders that way.    In Missouri, there aren't many d'uccles at the shows,  major lack of competition, so it's hard to know whether one's stock is 'show quality' vs close to the standard.   Here I am and I decided I wanted to breed d'uccles, but I'm at a point where I could really use some experienced opinions in deciding where to go from here.

Can anyone recommend a good poultry breeding/genetics book?
