Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

Here is my 4 month old duccle pullet, Hurley. How many feathers do they have to have on their middle toe for a duccle to be SQ?

There's not a specific # of feathers.
The Standard of Perfection actually doesn't mention them specifically. It says (pages 300 & 301):
"Toes - four in number on each foot, straight; outer toes heavily feathered to their extremities."

Quote:No, I don't keep a diaper on her. That's funny though, she would be a perfect house chicken though! She is so curious and friendly and unfortunately on the bottom of the pecking order, even below 8 week old bantam barnie chicks! It's really sad

What beautiful parents for your chicks! YOu must be thrilled. I just hatched my first 3 d'uccles....have no idea what color they are though.
We now have lemon blue, brown red, mille fleur, and splash bantam cochins and blue/splash langshans! ...See my website for Show ASPC/AMHR horses. Will add the chickens to my site as they age and I can get good pictures!

Congrats on your new three do you have pictures? We have about 4 more in the incubator that will be hatching over the next few weeks. My daughters plan to grow out some of the chicks just to see how they turn out and then start selling them locally.

You should enjoy the chicks and making more of them. Fun project for you and your daughter.....I bought the eggs from a breeder and they were supposed to be from her blue color pens...but one is a beige color...one a blue/lavender color and one is black and white.... I think they are really cute and bright little guys. I'll see about taking some snaps of them tomorrow. They are a little over a week old. I've got more eggs coming this week, and should be blues and black. Very exciting!
