D'uccle Thread - Page 480

frow.gifHello everyone.I ordered a cute little rabbit hutch yesterday and I was hoping to put d'Uccles in it when I get it. When I get it I'm going to build a longer run onto it. I don't know how much bigger the run will be but I will find out eventually and post how much longer it will be. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this hutch and if it would be a good place for d'Uccles? Also, how many d'Uccles do you think it would hold? I know its hard to tell since I don't know how big the run I'm going to put on there will be but I will find out soon. Here it is: http://www.petco.com/product/118477/Trixie-Gray-And-White-Natura-Animal-Hutch-with-Outdoor-Run.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch

dang. That rabbit hutch is small. Yet, they still put in Flemish Giants?! Heh...sorry. Rabbit lover.

Well...When I went to a rabbit show they had the most gorgeous Dutch hen for sale. Too bad I already was going to have 5 chickens :( I swear, she had the nicest little comb!

Pearl likes to make a racket before she lays an egg, and I was wondering if this was normal? Lol, I think she wants to wake up the whole neighborhood to show off her egg!

Okay, thanks! Like I said I'm going to be adding a pretty huge run on to it though.

Ah, Life in chicken jail.....  This guy has flogged me one too many times, but I think he is super gorgeous for color even if his feet aren't the best.  He's calmed down since the day I nearly wrung his neck.  He used to be a sweetie, but with the hormones and other roosters, his bad boy attitude came out.  I think I may give him a chance though, and see how his babies turn out.  I think he is just too gorgeous and I kind of like the 'tiny' white dots vs the normally too many dots I see.  He is a year old now.    Any thoughts, anyone?

Totally know the feeling. I had to jail three, if one wasn't coming after me, they were going after my FCBM rooster, very funny sight. Hey Teddi, do your d'Uccle's like big chickens, every little d'Uccle, I have likes to hang with all the big chicks, brahams, cochins, and if I have meaties, OMGOSH it OS crazy, they will hang with them and mate with them. I wish I could have gotten pictures of it. The meatie just lowered their heads and the rooster just slides off. LOL

I think you could probably house a trio in it if you have a big enough run. and put a roosting bar in there for them over the resting shelf and hay rack. (A bit of tinkering required.)  I have one I use for a single rooster 'chicken jail'.  I used clear plastic over the front in the winter to cut down on drafts.  Make sure if you have coons to put on some sort of better latches, and maybe zip tie some hardware cloth over a majority of the area where they might be able to reach in and grab a sleeping chickens feathers. My rooster likes to sleep on the 'resting shelf' so it is a non issue for me.  The 'resting shelf could fit 2, but probably not 3, however, one of them could always sleep underneath it and be safe.  The hutch worked great for my teenage chicks who were big enough to be outside but too small to mix with the grownups.

It is really funny because my d'uccle roos were all in love with the big girls when they were mixed!
