Can you feed dog food to chickens?

ok I was sick of going to 3 yes 3 different stores to buy cat food-dog food and chicken food. So I went to my local feed store and bought my chicken food-asked about high grade cat and dog foos equivellent to what they eat and the store clerk led me to blue seal pet food. So I thought well why not try it-awesome all food in one store!!! BLEAH...the dogs did nothing but fart all over 24/7 nasty stanky too. The cats seem to be fine on it. Well I happen to have bought a 50lb bag of this dog food and only went through half when i switched back to their normal purina food. I have 25lbs of it left-can the chickens eat? I threw them some as treats and well they ate it here and there-but I would still give them all their normal stuff but offer this as treats- does it have too much of one thing or you know not good for their systems-Ill give it away if its not good for them...oh it was Lamb and rice dog food No meat by product-wheat and soy free-it has flaxseed/bluberry and sweet potatoes in it??? Now that I think about thats gross for dog food!

As long as its a supplement or treat, rather than all they are eating, I'd say go for it - they'll probably love it.

As a doled out treat only it should be okay. Just stay upwind!

treats and upwind I promise! I could care less if they toot up a storm..maybe it will help the slackers poof out their first eggs easier! LOL..

Chickens LOVE cat food. My poor cats get less and less feed every day because the girls peck at it at every opportunity.

I used to live in Austin, TX and would put out bowls of dry cat food for the ferals- and I constantly found cats and chickens eating together! Too bad I didn't get pics, it was hilarious!
As a treat it is great- just not nutritionally balanced as regular feed.

Great entertainment though. And a LOT cheaper than cable TV!

My chickens run to the back porch where I give our dogs breakfast to check for anything left in the dish. They also share the water dish. I don't think it would be a proper diet to just feed dog food. Keep those layer brands coming if you want healthy birds when they can't free range.

Yeah, my nephew lived in panama and he always is giving my chickens dog food! He said when he was in Panama everyone fed their chickens dog food soaked for a bit in water. My chickens love it when he brings it out to them!

Did you mix the Blue Seal food with your dogs' regular Purina food for a few days before giving your dogs the 100% Bue Seal? Changing food gradually will prevent the runs and dog-farts...

Mine get dry dog or cat food as treats. They love them. But, then they love almost anything!
