OK I've finally found a guy that has Black Javas and I think I would like to get some eggs from him sometime this year. I know Javas, especially the blacks, are exstreamly rare and endangered. Javas are said to be the oldest American heritage breed, and they were used in creating of many of the breeds we have today, like the Barred Rocks, and these newer breeds are sadly taking over the Javas place and popularity on the farm and my goal would be to help get them repopulated, and I want to make sure that I have plenty other people who would be willing to buy eggs and maybe even chicks from me and help me increase their numbers, I would sell them pretty cheap, so more people could afford them. This breed is in desparate need of breeders to help bring it back from the brink of extinction. So who would be willing to help me? I would also have the Mottled variety too, but the blacks are even more rare than the mottleds and both need more breeders. Thanks

I might be able to help with that in the spring...

Why would anyone be interested in buying eggs from chickens that don't even exist yet? There's no way to know what the quality of these birds would be as they haven't been hatch let alone grown to maturity. There are hatcheries that sell Javas so they really aren't all that rare. What are rare are well bred Javas that approach the Standard description. There's no reason, based on information at hand, to assue the birds you propose to sell eggs from are better than what could be ordered from a hatchery.

NYREDS, I didn't say that they would be better than a hatchery and come to think of it, I've never heard of a hatchery that sells the black javas ! I know there are a few hatcheries that have the mottleds, but there still aren't that many people who have them and there are even fewer people who acutally breed them anymore for there to be many that " approach the Standard description" That's why I am trying to get more people to get them and help improve them to the standard. And if you want to get some from a hatchery or anywhere else, go ahead, I don't care, just as long as someone gets Javas and wants to breed and improve them, that's the purpose of this thread. If you had read the post correctly, I said, "I want to make sure that I have plenty other people who would be willing to buy eggs and maybe even chicks from me and help me increase their numbers," , meaning that before I go and buy these eggs, I want to see who else would be inerested in helping me breed them. I know the the birds I am planning on selling eggs from don't exist yet, and the people reading the post can infer that when I said I would like to get eggs sometime this year, so obviously, I haven't gotten the eggs yet, obviously they haven't hatched yet (if they even will), and so obviously, I don't know what quality the adult birds will be, but no matter what quality they are, they can be improved just like any other breed.

I believe his name is Duane Urch, he only emailed me his price list and I'm waiting to hear back from him with more info and pics of his javas. I'll let you know.
