Dutch Bantams Breed Thread

They DO make nice pets :) . Even the roo is sweet as can be and they all like to be held and petted. Do you think it's OEGB in their blood that makes for the less prominent white lobe? I wish I knew *anyone* else around with a similar breed.
Any way, I seem to be getting a "don't bother breeding these with Dutch, 'cause they aren't Dutch" enough vibe. Hokay. will see what I can get on the OEGB side.

Thanks!

You had said they were rescues, and as such most "rescue" birds are generally not true to type, as these are not. Therefore, I don't think folks will encourage you to breed them.

If you are interested in obtaining purebred Dutch, I encourage you to find a breeder of same through the Dutch Bantam Society, whose website is here: http://www.dutchbantamsociety.org/

This page has the District Directors, who you can contact to find someone in your area who sells true Dutch: http://www.dutchbantamsociety.org/Breeders_Page.html

Best of luck with your birds.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, none of the districts are anywhere near the Wa state Olympic peninsula... I will send a few emails and make a plea right here!
Anyone know anyone or rumors of anyone who has Dutch bantams, prefer ones that are similar to mine. I know they seem to be some sort of cross, so close is good. I love their color and temperment. Feel free to copy and forward this note/pics to anyone you think might help me sniff some out!

Do Dutch Bantams handle winter ok? I am trying to convince my parents that I can get some chickens. We live in Kansas. Thank you!

Guess who has decided to be a hpuse chicken. Actually I don't think he is doing well. He keeps foo.g this odd yawning thing. What could it be? What do I need to do for him?

Actually, because Dutch have a single comb, they do need to be kept in a warm place during winter, to avoid frostbite to their combs, males in particular.

Yawning can sometimes be a symptom of gape worm. Does he show any other respiratory symptoms?

No and he seems to be fine now. I guess it was all the turning him up side down I was doing to look under his feathers. I found ants in the coop and wanted to make sure he didn't have them or any other bugs.

I took these yesterday. What would you call his color? I don't know if you can see it but I think he has the Milli Fleur pattern. He is 4.5 mths old.
