Ok. Here are the 3 chicks that were sold to me as Welsummers.
They all looked pretty typical with chipmunk patterning, eyeliner and deep V head markings. But recently some have said that they are not Welsummers and appear to be a Barnyard mix of sorts. I'd like your opinions
Here they were at 2 days old
And in hindsight, this is probably the one the turned out to be our roo... Less eye liner and less clear V
And today, just over 7 weeks
And of course the Roo
Wellies or not, they are turning out really pretty and are a great addition to our flock, but we were hoping to for some darker eggs to round out our basket. (We also have 2 each EE, Australorps and Golden sex links) Is there still hope for some Famous Welsummer eggs from our 2 girls?
You know...their coloring is just a bit more red like RIR red or NH red on some. I agree. I think they are a barnyard mix but maybe just one generation down. I will say, they will make for some nice birds production wise. And you might find their "ink jets" working to give you a darker egg, nonetheless. You never know. They are lovely and you'll have some nice birds. too bad the folks couldn't be more straight forward on what they're selling though. Pretty Cheesy.
