Did you notify Whitmore about the pics being used?

Yes I did, and he will be contacting them.

The one Ebayer, Tink, will remove the pictures. She didn't know that she could not do it and the other people have done that. I told her it would be unethical to copy someone's pictures and call it your own. I advised her to take pictures of her Welsummers and post it. She was very very sorry. Glad she could do the next step which it is the rightful thing to do!

I didn't mean to imply the chickens were sorry looking, they are gorgeous and it is really nice to see 20 roosters running around the yard when I open their hoop coop for them daily!!

I know I am going to have to do some sorting and culling to see who gets paired up with hens and I've only JUST figured out some differences in the hens.

Rather than their butts, on the roos the easiest differences to see are their combs, wattles, and of course, their chest coloring and the amount of red feathers there or if they are all black there.

I spent some time today trying to see if there were color differences in the butt feathers, but from the distance they look to be the same, and only maybe one of them had some brownish coloring there, the rest were all darker.

I know I will be getting hands on more this spring.

My Wellie Project is progressing well. At my low hatch rates, getting in chicks from Opa really helped me along and even if I had to attend Chickenstock to do it, it was well worth the trip to pick them up.

Horror of horrors, chick days has started at TSC, and....I ....was...looking .......know I can't go there. Maybe I can send someone else to TSC for the next few months to pick up feed, etc!!

It would be too hard keeping them separate since I want to free range the chickens across my entire 2 acres. I have lots of 'debugging' and scratching up the poo piles from the alpacas for them to do this summer to help keep the flys and bugs down. It is supposed to keep the pasture 'healthier' for the alpacas, too. So the roos will still have a big job to do.....

I think I neeed a better camera, this sony digital SUCKS for taking pictures.

I just filled up my 2 brinseas with Lavender Ameraucana, Midget White Turkey and Welsummer eggs!  I'm hatching the Wellies out for Ewesheep, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good hatch.  I've got to get eggs out to Taz, and then if the weather holds and the girls keep laying I hope to have some up for auction towards the end of March.  My girls are 2 now, so I need to hatch some for myself too!

I love this time of year!

Remember Tink I mentioned earlier? She would come in here and learn all about Welsummers and various questions about chickens. I told her ask away and she can ask many questions as she wanted and we all be sure to lead her in the right direction!

Hope she will share her Welsummers with us!

What color should butts be

What color should thighs be, partridge or solid with colored shaft like their chests?

Mine are all partridge on top, but some are partridge on THIGHS and some are solid w/shaft colored on THIGHS

Some have grayish butts

Some have brownish butts

I'm sure I will have some, how many chicks are you wanting (of each type)  I haven't got my breeders seperated out on them yet though, so you may still get some of the funky traits that pop up in the lavs, I guess you could get them even with the breeders,.. they are still a work in progress for everyone breeding them.

My EE broody Smokey is the proud new momma to 2 Welsummer and 1 Ameraucana chicks. 

How many days old will they need to be before I will be able to distinguish the eyeliner & V?  They hatched yesterday and she is very protective of them so they are still hiding under her wings - and of course staying warm there.
