I've never seen a Wellie/Barnie cross, so I can't say. This is the EE hen who I think is the likely culprit.

OK, here are some pix of the chick in question. I am 99.999% sure that my brown-egg-laying Ameracauna flew over into the Wellies' nest boxes. It makes no sense that this wouldn't have shown up before for you or that I would have gotten only the one like it out of about 50 eggs. Pardon the pee in photo #2.......... And OF COURSE -- you bet I can pass some birds on to you!

Do you have a photo of the EE bird? I bet you are right that it is from the EE. Hard telling what is in a EE blood...and looking at this chick a little closer the breast color of it does not look correct for a Barnie cross Wellie. When I got Wellie x Barnie chicks they came from 3 separate breeders from 3 corners of the country and if memory serves me correctly they didn't have this color chest.(I did not breed any of the birds that came to me crossed that were suppose to be pure....they were all culled)
I will look for a photo of those Wellie x Barnie chicks and post when I find it.
Thanks for posting this photo, Bee. It is a cute chick!
Oh....one more question.......does this chick have a single comb? What kind of comb does you EE have?
Vanalpaca~ If this chick was going to have muffs and a beard it would show the muffs at hatch. :)

Your EE is laced and she doesn't have a beard, so she would give a similar appearance. Sneaky girl!
Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.
Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.
I have zero chicken willpower.Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.

I have zero chicken willpower.Sorry Beesong...didn't mean to repeat the question of what the EE hen looked like, when I first opened the thread to read it, the photo of her didn't show and guess what??????
DING DING DING......that's your baby momma!!!!!!! And she is a pretty girl! :)

Too funny! What a sneaky little flyer she is........... She certainly pulled one off on all of us for a while. I'm relieved that she is the cause. She was just trying to get your attention, LOL!
P.S. This chicks leg color should also be "off" as you watch it age. :)

Quote:It will be interesting to see how this chick develops. It's going home with my friend from Vashon with several of the Wellie chicks so we can keep an eye on it. (Said friend isn't interested in breeding, so it will be a good spot for said chick.)
