Well, that's super good to know, thank you so much SilkiesForEver!

Thanks, I really love Charlie, he's sweet and very silly! I've noticed that my sultans put their heads together a lot, as if they're kissing?!?! I've also noticed that they don't use the roost I gave them. It should be perfectly comfortable. sometimes I see one on it, but they sleep in the shavings all the time. Is that a Sultan thing? If so, I might take it into design consideration for the interior of their coop....
My Silkies don't sleep on their roosts either, so it must have something to do with their crests.

Or their feet? Ok, good to know, now I'm thinking of partitioning off a section of the coop and making it "sound proof" or actually sound reduced.... I might have to use forced air for ventilation though... See, we have to go somewhere in the spring time, and I'm hoping to make the coops fully automated with enough food and water supplied to last at least that long. That would mean the boy has to stay outside with the hens. Unless I can find someone to care for the, which I don't think I can. The boys are off to college, nobody is around anymore :(

If my mother or my sister came by once a day to collect the eggs, that's really all I can hope for from them (all I can ask, really, they do so much for me all the time...) At least if they came by to collect eggs, they'd be getting something in return, right? LOL

Haha!

I don't think its their feet because my D'uccles have heavily feathered feet and roost on the roost bars "all day long"!

Hummm! Well, regardless, if they like to sit on the shavings, I might be able to make them a non-roost box to go to bed in that could live inside the coop that would cost less to sound insulate?? We shall see what I can come up with...??
Hmmm sounds good. Let me know!

Mine loves to roost and perch up high. My silkies sleep on the floor. However I teach mine how I use roosts at a very young age.

Ah, it would cause trouble with cleaning if they were always in the shavings (the shavings wouldn't last as long) And knowing how comatose they get, I can imagine a critter like a rat getting inside and chewing off their toes, or some other horrendous thing! Ugh, all I know is I REALLY want to keep Charlie, LOL

Ok so, two days ago I started feeding everyone fermented feed. My sultans are no longer, how shall I say it? clean? Their beards and chests are all sticky and brownish from dribbling their food on themselves, LOL. What pigs! So, if I were to take pictures today, they wouldn't look nice like last time
