Is there a such thing as a hermaphrodite

Okay I am so glad I found this. I have an EE rooster/hen that has hackle feathers and pointy tail feathers but doesn't crow and others are ready to lay. She/he should have crowed by now. I live in the city and I'll have to get rid of him... her if she happens to be a rooster. He has a deep voice like a rooster too? I'll post pics tommarow if that s okay with the O.P.

I had a hermaphrodite BBB. He died & I had to know why so I opened IT up to find ONE testicle & a uterus with eggs forming.
Strutted around like a male, had a beard but was about to start laying. LOL

I have a friend who has a transsexual RIR hen. She is 6 or 7 years and after her last molt she developed secondary male characteristics. She now has hackle and saddle feathers and typical rooster tail feathers. She hasn't started crowing yet though. I know that this happens occasionally and is generally associated with a reproductive tract tumor, but after a lifetime (69 years worth) around poultry I have never seen it before. Other than her sex chanfge she is in apparently good health.

well mine is young. hatched Apr. 24 , 2015. Does a herm. turkey lay eggs? can they be self fertile? mine has strong behavior patterns of both sexes. Does everything the hens do and everything the thoms do, usually mimicing the thoms but more naturally behaving like a hen. has a stubby little beard and long dangle thing. But does anybody know the answers to my questions??? Are Herm. turkeys worth more?

The eggs in front is hers..

See how she has to sit?

Just hanging out

Heck yes! But first a tiny history on her! I have a Lavender Orpington that I was given as a 3 day old out a batch of "layers". She was given to me because she had splayed legs, and my chicken lady (I call her that because she sells chicks including some to me) thought maybe I would love to raise her since she knew I spoiled my other 2 week olds.

This tiny girl I named Chelsea Chick. I was not able to fix her legs, as I didn't do it properly, or it just didn't work. Anyway, she grew and grew, and all the other chicks accepted her into their cuddling group. So she made 13..

As she grew, her back toes were facing forward, and rarely back, which meant she couldn't hold a roost, can't hop up as high, and also at times sort of falls .. Maybe I should have put her down, but she was so darn happy, and now I just can't do it. She also didn't make chick noises like the others. Never made a sound. At about 3 months she started to make a sound like a tiny goose honk every now and then. It was around two months I noticed she had a tiny bit of cross beak also. Maybe that has something to do with her sounds she makes.

Out of my 12 chicks 2 were taken by a hawk or eagle, 5 were roosters who would crow their brains out so I found homes for them except for one.. I had to find a home for him too because someone called the muni on me...

Anyhow, Chelsea Chicken loves herself some treats, can't preen her feathers properly because of the cross beak and legs. She also is definitely NOT smart, and will stand in the rain. So I also blowdry her if it's raining lightly and I didn't close her up since she cries if she can't be with any one. That's what she sounds like. A quiet long honk hoooooonk.. She was starting to look like a rooster much to my dismay. I pretty much LOVE that chick! People on a Facebook page I look at said she was a rooster, while others insisted she was a hen. The ones who said she was a hen, said she would most likely die if she laid an egg due to her splayed legs..

Finally at 6 months she looked like a rooster, but never made a sound other than her quiet honks. One day I saw her coming out of the hen house (shed) not making a sound and there were 6 eggs!!! Ok I thought, maybe someone laid 2, but this one was a smallish light mauve/brownish. A couple of days later she laid a HUGE light pinkish one. Bigger than Sheldon the barred rock! A few days later there was another one. No egg song, I could hardly wait for her to try to make the egg song since she couldn't make regular chicken noises! And that is all she has laid in almost 3 weeks.

Last week she was trying to strut around and tried to crow. She made a hilarious quiet long honk with her neck all stretched out. She is my sweet tranny, and I just love her!
