Has anyone tried Avia Charge 2000? Supposed to be an all natural trace mineral supplement for chickens. I'm worried that my girls aren't getting what they need in their diet. I feed them Purina Layena, and not too many treats this winter, but they are totally porking out on the calcium I put in their coop, and I think they are feather pecking one of my SLW's or she's molting a little. So, I'm worried about what else they might be missing in their diet.

My one girl got out of her hospital cage and ran right for the calcium gobbled it down even while the other girls were trying to peck at her bum.

I started using it just this fall. Some of my girls went through their first heavy molt and were not looking so good. Also, last year I had a hard time with them feather eating, it drove me crazy! I wanted them to be as healthy as possible going into the winter. I have to say they look great! I'm not sure if it's the Avia charge since its only been about 2 months. I also started them on wormgard plus with flax (from Mcmurry's) about six months ago, which is a natural wormer.

I have Avia Charge on hand and I love it. I sometimes use it as an additive when I make a wet mash for my girls. One jar has lasted me over a year, and I am still using it. It is probably the one thing that I would recommend to someone who wants to cover all the bases nutritionally.

I use it a little more when I think the girls might be stressed: extreme weather (hot or cold), when molting, when raising chicks, etc.

I use it. I mix a little in their water, so it's a lightish tea color. Any higher concentration and mine seem to avoid the water........
I started using it at the recommendation of dlhunicorn here at BYC......to hopefully close any dietary gaps......

Last week, my girls did the same thing with the calcium (crushed oyster shell). I put it out and they jumped all over it eating every last bit. They would never even go near it in the past. So I ordered Avia Charge 2000, just waiting for it in the mail. I hear nothing but good things about it. I missed the post on the daily recommendations, can anyone recap?

The container label says 1-1.5 teaspoons per gallon of water. I use less because this amount makes the water too "altered" (almost coffee colored) and my feathered friends don;t like it. So I use enough to turn the water no darker than a mild iced tea color. They will tolerate this and I figure it's still helping them close any gaps in their diet. Sometimes whne I make them a scrambled egg I sprinkle a little bit in...
