JJ you know I did not hollar at you...  I have got to get some good pics of this oddity...OMG he is a hoot and beautiful and sweet.  He literally walks up mine and my daughter's arm to sit on our shoulder...he jumps back and forth between her and I.  He has tons of the mille gold coming in and a touch of red peeking through on his shoulder.

The solid black one is now getting some silvery looking markings but too soon tell if silver or gold.  Still too faint to determine.  Also a boy.

Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well-preserved body. but rather, to skid in sideways, totally worn out and exhausted while shouting loudly "WOW! What a ride!"

Thank you once again Backwoods Bntms, after comparing the photo to my d'anvers, I am sure they are girls. big_smile.png So very relieved as they are wonderful little birds and already have my kids trained to wait on them claw and wing. roll.png lol

Thank you Speckledhen, comparing your photos was very reassuring as mine don't have the combs of your boys in the photos. Now I can finally relax and just enjoy them. big_smile.png

Edited to add: Thank you both for taking the time to answer my question and hunt for photos. I really appreciate it.

No problem, just passing on the information that was given me on here when I got my first quail.

Okay...updated pictures of the oddity...here he is at a little over three weeks old

And just for JJ...muahahaha

So what is it or have I created my own new color variation?  Nothing surprises me around here.  Oh and the solid black chick the broody hatched from the same pen...4 days earlier that the above...has silver peeking through so I without a doubt have silver somewhere.

Here are the birds minus one porcelain from that pen...I suspect the black lavender split to be the culprit but it could also be the lavender girl..

That is one cool looking oddity, LH.

Now, someone tell me why I can't even give birds away right now? Now that I know all 5 of the chicks are pullets, I'm giving away 3 pullet chicks with the two pairs I'm selling for just $20 total. What is wrong with this picture? It's nuts. Thankfully, bantams are not big eaters, but good grief.

Just wondered what my little chicken is! I was sure she was a d'anvers, she looks just like one, her size, shape, face muff, she is black with a tiny comb like the picture of a cushion comb. But now she has laid her first egg and it is BLUE. So what do I have?

2 Buff Orpingtons, , 2 Australorps, 2 Bantam EE, 2 Delawares, 2 Barnevelders, 2 blue mixed something, 1 "Orpicana",1 Polish mix that looks like a roadrunner! A black Bantam Faverolles rooster named Henry. And 2 Australian Spotted ducks.

2 horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats.
