Plymouth Rock thread!

The Grandmothers and all the kinfolk in our families from past generations kept Barred Plymouth Rocks. There are many wonderful breeds of chickens, but the all time solid back yard bird? For me it is The Barred Rock. --- Seeing them always reminds me of visiting round, sweet, soft old ladies wearing aprons and smelling of lavender --- of angel biscuits and homemade blackberry jam --- and gathering eggs for the first time.

I've raised a few chicks when I was 13. I didn't know about different breeds; I would just get random chicks from my cousin who lived on a dairy, with a huge flock. So this is my first time raising a specific breed. It's been so long since I've done it but, I am excited!

I just got 2 Barred Rock chicks and 1 Lavender Orpington on Thursday from a local feed store. I know it's too early to tell but I thought it would be fun to make predictions on the sexes of my Barred Rock chicks since I heard you could (correct me if I'm wrong) by the yellowing on top of their heads.
My prediction on the two: 1 roo & 1 pullet (will update later).
What do you think?
Do I need a better picture?

I'm thinking that one is a black Australorp possibly. And the darker rocks are twice the size of the lighter ones so not sure if they are hens or maybe a jersey giant cross or something...just hoping for a couple to be hens

Yeah, it does look a lot like an Australorp.
The lighter barred one in the first pic looks like a roo to me.

There are 2 lighter ones that I'm most positive are roos. It's the bigs I'm not so sure on. They have some barring but it's a little blurry. But this is our first time with these. Guess I'll know for sure when they either crow or squat!
